Biden Homeland Security Chief Declares ‘Domestic Violent Extremism’ Greatest Terrorist Threat

DHS Secretary Mayorkas Declares ‘Domestic Violent Extremism Is The Greatest Terrorist Related Threat We Face’

On Monday, Biden’s Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said that “domestic violence extremism is the greatest terrorist-related threat we face on the homeland.”

The refrain has been a common one in recent years, with federal law enforcement and politicians repeatedly stating that Americans constitute the biggest terrorist threat – typically described as “white supremacists” or “domestic extremists” or a similar variation.

Mayorkas made his comments during an interview on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports.”

Mayorkas Points Finger Inward

Host Mitchell asked Mayorkas, “As a result of the January 6 attack, are you doing enough to identify extremists domestically?”

Mayorkas replied, “We are very focused on this. This is one of our highest priorities.”

The DHS head then declared, “Domestic violence extremism is the greatest terrorist-related threat we face on the homeland.”

“We have created the Center for Prevention Programs and Partnership in the Department,” he continued. “We have a task force dedicated to this effort.”

Mayorkas said, “We’ve dedicated more than $77 million in grant funding to state, local, tribal, territorial authorities. We are doing so much to address this really grave threat.”

Mitchell then elaborated on what “domestic” extremism might actually mean.

Mitchell asked, “What are you doing to identify terrorists or extremists, extremist groups within the military, within the ranks of DHS as well, other government branches?”

Mayorkas responded, “Well, Secretary Austin, the Secretary of the Department of Defense, is conducting an internal review within his department, and we are doing the same within our department.”

“We are very focused on ensuring that our personnel uphold our values and represent the best of our nation. It’s our responsibility,” Mayorkas finished.

Mayorkas Has Been Saying This For Awhile

This is not new for Mayorkas. In March, he said during an interview on ABC News. “We are very focused on domestic violent extremism. It is the single greatest terrorism-related threat that we face in our homeland.”

He made a similar comment in February during a CNN interview where he also called domestic extremism a “persistent threat.”

Mayorkas isn’t alone, of course.

In January, the FBI announced that they were vetting active duty National Guard troops due to “fears of an insider attack.”

On his first day in office, President Biden “directed his national security team to lead a 100-day comprehensive review of U.S. Government efforts to address domestic terrorism, which has evolved into the most urgent terrorism threat the United States faces today.”
