Vandals Accidentally Wreck ‘Peace Monument’ Thinking It Was Confederate Statue

This – this right here – is exactly why leftist vandals (we won’t call them protesters anymore) need to spend more time in school or learning about life in the real world, instead of being out and about destroying private property.

A group of overly dramatic rioters in Atlanta spraypainted, then attempted to topple, a statue they believed to be a memorial to the Confederacy.

Turns out they were destroying Atlanta’s Peace Monument, erected in 1911, which entails “a sculpture that features an angel standing above a Confederate soldier, guiding him to lay down his weapon.”

It really just doesn’t get any dumber than that. They vandalized something that symbolizes the exact opposite of what they really wanted to destroy. You know, like when they vandalized a memorial to the man who abolished slavery.

The Free Beacon reports:

Atlanta’s Peace Monument was damaged by protesters Sunday night, though it was erected in 1911 to urge reconciliation after the Civil War, not to celebrate the Confederacy.

The sculpture features an angel standing above a Confederate soldier, guiding him to lay down his weapon. Protesters traveled in Atlanta from Woodruff Park to Piedmont Park, where the Peace Monument is located, and some desecrated it, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The scene was only protected by one police officer, who was surrounded by black-clad Antifa protesters shouting “pig.”

Who let these people out of their Mom’s basement? Seriously.

The monument, according to the Gate City Guard, was celebrated in newspapers at the time as “represent(ing) different things to different people:  Patriotism, reconciliation, the pledge of friendship and good will, and optimism about America’s unfinished history.”

Now, it represents liberal anarchy, the thought police, and weapons-grade stupidity.

Atlanta Police Chief Erika Shields voiced regrets about not being more proactive in stopping the vandals before they got started.

“I feel like that we should have identified, removed and arrested a couple of people earlier in the march, absolutely,” she said at a news conference.
