AOC Now Defines the Democratic Party–And Working Class Voters Overwhelmingly Reject It

A new poll as reported by Axios on Sunday  shows that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is increasingly defining the Democratic Party, particularly for white working-class voters.

While this might sound like quite an achievement for the freshmen congresswoman, the bad news for her is these voters don’t like what they see when it comes to Democrats.

They don’t like her and what she represents. Overwhelmingly.

This data is reportedly “circulating” among “top Democrats,” and the survey involved “1,003 likely general-election voters who are white and have two years or less of college education.”

According to Axios (emphasis included in original reporting):

  • Ocasio-Cortez was recognized by 74% of voters in the poll; 22% had a favorable view.
  • Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota — another member of The Squad — was recognized by 53% of the voters; 9% (not a typo) had a favorable view.

Socialism was viewed favorably by 18% of the voters and unfavorably by 69%.

  • Capitalism was 56% favorable; 32% unfavorable.
  • “Socialism is toxic to these voters,” said the top Democrat.

This poll was taken before the war of words between Ocasio-Cortez and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi last week, when AOC called Pelosi racist for “singling out … women of color.”

Trump Blasts AOC

On Sunday, President Trump tweeted that ‘the Squad,’ the nickname given to far-left Democratic Congresswomen Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, should “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came.”

Ocasio-Cortez noted in response that she was from the U.S.

“Mr. President, the country I ‘come from,’ & the country we all swear to, is the United States,” AOC tweeted. “But given how you’ve destroyed our border with inhumane camps, all at a benefit to you & the corps who profit off them, you are absolutely right about the corruption laid at your feet.”

While the verbal back and forths with both Pelosi and Trump will no doubt continue, this should be a major moment of self-examination and if they are wise, a reckoning, for Democrats.

Do they want this woman to be the face and soul of their party?

Can Democrats win in 2020 and beyond if they are perceived as the party of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez?

Unfortunately for them, the data already tells us the answer.
