Legal Immigrants Are Objecting To Illegal Immigration And Sanctuary Cities

This is an untold story about the ideological battle between those who support criminal illegal aliens and those who support rule of law – The effect illegal immigration has on those who came to America by following the rules.

Recently, the New York Times of all places discovered this phenomenon in Maryland, where legal immigrants are fighting back against so-called ‘sanctuary city’ legislation.

Why would legal immigrants oppose allowing illegals to avoid prosecution or deportation? We’ll explain it to bleeding-heart liberals using the Times’ own report:

  1. Illegal immigration minimizes the effort already undertaken by those who followed the law and became American citizens in the proper manner.
  2. Legal immigrants do not want their families to fall victim to illegal immigrant gang members or criminals.
  3. Illegal immigration cripples the public education system, tying up valuable resources that citizens and legal immigrants need.
  4. It threatens the American dream for actual Americans, naturalized or legally immigrated.

Now the New York Times has actually investigated how certain cities in Maryland – where Democrats hold a two to one numbers advantage to Republicans, and where foreign-born citizens have a strong presence in the community – are struggling to pass ‘sanctuary city’ legislation.

The opposition is coming from a source they thought would be on their side.

Via the Times:

At first blush, making Howard County a sanctuary for undocumented immigrants had seemed a natural move: The county has twice as many Democrats as Republicans and a highly educated population, full of scientists and engineers. One in five residents was born abroad.

But the bill met stout opposition from an unlikely source: some of those very same foreign-born residents.

In passionate testimony before county legislators, and in tense debates with liberal neighbors born in the United States, legal immigrants argued that offering sanctuary to people who came to the country illegally devalued their own past struggles to gain citizenship.

Some even felt it threatened their hard-won hold on the American dream.

These are true and valid concerns. Democrats would have you believe there is no path to legal citizenship currently in the United States. This is patently false. Everyone who wants to get into this country can do so, through hard work, patience, following proper channels, and adhering to the law.

“The failure of the sanctuary bills in Maryland reveals a potentially troublesome fissure for Democrats as they rush to defy Mr. Trump,” the Times writes, citing the President’s platform of enforcing immigration laws.

“Their party has staked out an activist position built around protecting undocumented immigrants. But it is one that has alienated many who might have been expected to support it.”

“Being in America is such a high privilege,” explains one legal immigrant profiled in the report.  “You cannot easily give that privilege to somebody without going through some kind of process. It’s like giving lots of gold for one dollar.”

Indeed, it is.

It is a report well worth reading, as four legal immigrants in Maryland voice their concerns and opposition to ‘sanctuary city’ policies.
