During the 2016 campaign, many political observers and commentators claimed that Ivanka Trump was her father’s secret weapon on the campaign trail.
First Daughter Ivanka and First Lady Melania have both received glowing reviews for their performances on the stump advocating on behalf of President Trump.
Well, a new Politico/Morning Consult Poll confirms what we already knew: the American public views both Melania and Ivanka Trump favorably.
According to the results, 47% of voters have a positive opinion of Melania Trump, compared to just 32% that have an unfavorable view of the First Lady. Ivanka Trump is viewed favorably by 49% of voters, whereas a mere 30% of voters view her negatively.
Melania Trump’s favorability has rebounded since the Republican National Convention, up from 42 percent after her RNC speech, in which she appeared to crib lines from Michelle Obama’s Democratic convention speech in 2008. Ivanka Trump’s favorability is down a point from 50 percent after the GOP convention.
“While most have formed their opinion on Donald Trump, about 20 percent of voters still haven’t made up their mind about the First Lady and First Daughter,” said Kyle Dropp, Morning Consult Chief Research Officer and Co-Founder. “That leaves open an opportunity for Ivanka and Melania to refine their public personas over the next few months as the new administration gets underway.”
In addition, the polling finds that 51% of Americans want Melania to have a major role in President Trump’s White House, compared to 45% who want daughter Ivanka to be actively involved in the administration.
Both women spoke at President Trump’s convention and appeared at campaign events for him, offering powerful, personal testimony on his behalf. As of right now, Melania has chosen to remain in New York City to allow her son Barron to finish out the school year, rather than uprooting him and moving him into the White House.

Ivanka Trump is allegedly going to have a prominent role in her father’s administration, as she was seen as a key adviser throughout her father’s campaign. Ivanka’s husband Jared has also taken an unpaid advisory role in the White House, and President Trump has tasked him with the important job of trying to negotiate a peace deal between Israel and their Palestinian neighbors.
