The woke singer Maren Morris has announced that she is leaving country because of what she describes as the “Trump years.”

In a new interview, Morris whined that hit songs like Jason Aldean’s “Try That in a Small Town” have become “really toxic weapon[s] in culture wars.”

“After the Trump years, people’s biases were on full display,” Morris, 33, told the Los Angeles Times. “It just revealed who people really were and that they were proud to be misogynistic and racist and homophobic and transphobic. All these things were being celebrated, and it was weirdly dovetailing with this hypermasculine branch of country music.”

Referring to “Try That In A Small Town,” Morris claimed that “people are streaming these songs out of spite.”

“It’s not out of true joy or love of the music. It’s to own the libs,” she continued. “And that’s so not what music is intended for. Music is supposed to be the voice of the oppressed — the actual oppressed. And now it’s being used as this really toxic weapon in culture wars.”

“I thought I’d like to burn it to the ground and start over,” she said later in the interview. “But it’s burning itself down without my help. I’ve said everything I can say.”

Morris went on to say that she felt “safe” when she recently performed with her fellow woke singer Taylor Swift.

“It’s such a supportive crowd: 90 percent women and 10 percent gays and dads,” she gushed. “I’ve never felt so safe at a live show before.”

Morris Apologizes For Country Music 

This is far from the first time that Morris has gone full woke. Earlier this year, she used an appearance on “Rupaul’s Drag Race” to apologize for country music’s “relationship with LGBTQ[QIAAP2S]+ members.”

“Coming from country music and its relationship with, like, LGBTQ[QIAAP2S]+ members, I just want to say I’m sorry and I love you guys for making me feel like a brave voice in country music,” she said, according to Deadline. “So I just thank you guys for inspiring me. I’m gonna cry. I’m gonna go!”

Morris Feuds With Aldeans

Last year, Morris publicly feuded with Aldean and his wife Brittany after the latter commented on the issue of transgender children.

“I’d really like to thank my parents for not changing my gender when I went through my tomboy phase. I love this girly life,” Brittany wrote on social media, with her husband responding by saying, “Lmao!! I’m glad they didn’t too, cause you and I wouldn’t have worked out.”

This didn’t sit well with Morris, who commented that it is “so easy to, like, not be a scumbag human,” before adding that Brittany should just “sell your clip-ins and zip it, Insurrection Barbie,” according to US Weekly.

“I’m just so sick of looking at absolute horses–t on the internet and people getting away with it, much less being celebrated for it,” Morris said afterwards. “But I would say check on your trans friends. Check on your gay friends. Anyone that is in country music and had to look at that bulls–t today and feel subhuman. Check on your friends.”
