Widow Of Fallen NYPD Detective Jason Rivera Blasts Soft-on-Crime DA Amid Surge In Attacks On Police

The widow of fallen NYPD Detective Jason Rivera, during her heartbreaking eulogy, criticized Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg for what many believe are his ‘soft on crime’ policies.

Dominique Luzuriaga Rivera often fought back tears as she spoke during the funeral for her husband, who had posthumously been promoted to Detective First Grade.

Detective Rivera, a mere 22-years of age, was shot and killed a week earlier while he and his partner, Officer Wilbert Mora, were responding to a domestic violence call. Mora died several days later after being shot in the head.

Rivera’s widow drew strength from her husband as she began a very serious commentary on a system that has ‘failed’ police officers.

“Although you won’t be here anymore, I want you to live through me,” she began.

Rivera Widow Slams DA Alvin Bragg

Detective Rivera’s wife told the crowd of mourners that her husband wasn’t pleased with the new Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg and his lax policies toward criminals.

“The system continues to fail us. We are not safe anymore, not even the members of the service,” she decried. “I know you were tired of these laws, especially the ones from the new DA.”

“I hope he’s watching you speak through me right now,” she added, clearly speaking of Bragg as he sat just a few pews away.

At that point, what had been a somber and silent crowd of mourners and listeners rose to their feet and gave Dominique Rivera a thunderous round of applause.

Rivera’s words seem especially poignant as we learn that in just the span of 48 hours, six cops had been shot in three different cities across the U.S.

Two in St. Louis, one in Milwaukee, and three in Houston.

The widow of Jason Rivera noted that her husband was tired of left-wing policies that favor the criminal rather than the victim, but those left behind would now carry on the fight.

“I’m sure all of our blue family is tired too. But I promise, we promise, that your death won’t be in vain,” she said.

The New York Daily News in early January reported that Bragg, even as violent crime is on the rise in New York City, “wants to dial back prosecution of minor crimes.”

He, according to the report, “told his staff not to bother with many cases of fare beating, resisting arrest and other nonviolent crimes.”

Even Democrat Kathy Hochul, the Governor of New York by default, has been riding Bragg for being soft on crime. She had threatened to reverse his policeies under her authority as governor, though a recent sit-down meeting now seems to have sufficed in her eyes.

Bragg responded to the verbal thrashing by Dominique Rivera in a statement shortly thereafter.

“My thoughts are with their families and the NYPD. Violence against police officers will never be tolerated,” he insisted. “My office will vigorously prosecute cases of violence against police and work to prevent senseless acts like this from ever happening again.”
