Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) blatantly used inflated infection and death toll numbers during the Senate coronavirus hearing on Tuesday, and it didn’t take long for this to come back to bite her.
White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany wasted no time in calling out Warren hours later for what she had done, saying at her daily press briefing that she had personally ran the senator’s “funny numbers” by White House coronavirus response coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx.
“Elizabeth Warren erroneously said there were 25,000 new cases today, in fact, there were less than 20,000. Sen. Warren said there were 2,000 deaths, in fact, there have been less than a thousand — I spoke with Dr. Birx about that,” McEnany said. “I would encourage our Democratic colleagues and all Americans to make sure we are putting out good information because it does have consequences.”

Warren used the falsely large numbers while talking to Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, during a hearing with the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. “As I understand it, we have about 25,000 new infections a day and over 2,000 deaths a day…and some are estimating we could be at 200,000 cases a day by June,” Warren said.
Fauci immediately shut down the 200,000 figure, saying that he expected the number of cases to be much lower by June.

Though Warren did not say from where she had derived her numbers, the 200,000 figure is identical to one that was in the draft Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that was leaked to the media last week. This report was immediately disavowed by both the White House and the CDC, who admitted that the numbers were not accurate.
McEnany has only been the White House press secretary for a few days, but she is already showing that she is a force to be reckoned with. After this verbal beatdown, Warren will definitely be thinking twice before she goes after the president with lies again.
