Baker Mayfield put anti-military football players to shame last week, refusing orders to get off the practice field until he could sign an autograph and take selfies with every service member in attendance.
The autograph session took place at Cleveland Browns training camp and, as reporter Hayden Grove tweeted, “Mayfield was called off the field by the team.”
“He refused and signed and took selfies with every soldier remaining on the field,” Grove told fans.
In a video clip, viewers can see groundskeepers in the background working away, essentially turning the lights out as a hint that it is time to go. Still, he signs footballs, shirts, and even helmets.
One individual in the video can be heard saying, “Thanks, Baker … thanks for staying.”
You can tell it meant a lot to these men and women.

Mayfield’s brash attitude on and off the field has made him somewhat of a polarizing figure in sports.
This gesture, however, will go a long way in the eyes of the fans, as well as those of other military members.

Laying claim to being “denied work” is really weird coming from a guy who opted out of a contract with the 49ers to become a free agent.
Denver Broncos general manager John Elway also suggested his team tried to trade for Kaepernick, but the quarterback couldn’t fathom taking a pay cut to prove himself.
“Colin had his chance here. We offered him a contract. He didn’t take it,” Elway claimed. “So, As I said it in my deposition, I don’t know if I’ll be legally able to say this, but he’s had his chance to be here. He passed it.”
I mean, he does know that refusing to actually work is not the same as being refused for work, right?
Kaepernick incidentally didn’t want to take a drop in salary from $12 million to about $7 million according to reports. Yet he settled with the NFL over his collusion allegations reportedly for an amount less than $10 million.
