Virginia Gun Owners Protest New Law in True American Fashion

State legislators in Virginia might not have been prepared for this kind of backlash to their proposed gun legislation.

Virginia Gun Owners

Taking a page from the playbook of the radical leftist immigration lobby, gun owners in the state of Virginia have convinced over 100 cities, towns, and counties in the state to declare themselves gun-“sanctuary” areas.

This is in response to upcoming extremist gun-control legislation put forth by the Democratic majority in the Virginia General Assembly.

Democrats flipped the state house blue in November 2019 state elections.

The leader who backs the bills, Gov. Ralph Northam (D), is also a hard-Left Democrat best known for his (possible) recreational use of blackface — and his championship of late-term abortion to the point of actual infanticide.

The two new bills, SB 16 and SB 18, would ban “assault weapons” (as the Left defines them), raise the minimum age to purchase a weapon to 21, and require background checks for any gun transfer.

So much for “shall not be infringed” and the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Anti-constitutional activists, such as the so-called Moms Demand Action group, frame their argument this way: “We know that, as it has been proven, gun safety laws save lives,” as a representative from the group is reported to have said in open debate.

The person who made that statement is apparently not aware that the cities in America with the highest gun-related crime rates, such as Baltimore and Chicago, also have the most stringent gun control laws.

Rep. Rob Wittman (R-Va.) does not agree with the gun-control group: “I am against the current laws put forth by the General Assembly to restrict firearm purchases and I will remain committed to preserving the right of all law-abiding individuals to purchase, possess, and use firearms,” he said to Fox News on Thursday.

Gun sanctuary groups are even more adamant. The Virginia Citizens Defense League announced in a statement on December 26 that, “should the government in Richmond act lawlessly, then local officials and the people they represent will not cooperate and may take steps to actively resist.”

Focus on that last part of the line: “May take steps to actively resist.”

What form that resistance could take is anyone’s guess.

But it is likely the Dem–run Virginia General Assembly didn’t take it into account when proposing this extreme kind of measure.

Now, one way or another, their leftist arrogance will cost them. Virginia should be hopeful that the reckoning is only at the polls.
