UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson Calls Biden ‘Breath of Fresh Air’ Compared To Trump On Climate Change

Boris Johnson Calls Biden ‘Breath of Fresh Air’ Compared To Trump

On Tuesday, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that President Joe Biden was a “breath of fresh air” compared to President Trump when it comes to dealing with climate change.

The American-born Johnson, who had portrayed himself as a more Trump-style nationalist during the Brexit campaign, made clear he is more like Biden than Trump.

Johnson made his comments during an interview on NBC’s “Today.”

Johnson Talks Milley, Capitol Riot

Johnson spoke of other topics with Guthrie – including his relationship with President Trump.

Asked if Johnson’s previous comments about the Capitol riot created a rift with Trump, Johnson said, “I’m a massive fan of America and American democracy. I think America stands for an ideal, and that ideal is that people should be able to choose their government peacefully.”

“One person, one vote by election, I felt some of the scenes at the Capitol didn’t wholly correspondent with that,” the British Prime Minister said.

Guthrie tried to bait Johnson into blaming Trump for the incident, saying, “Did you hold former President Trump responsible for inciting that riot?”

Ever the British gentleman, Johnson didn’t rise to the bait: “I have no knowledge of what happened. Let me put it this way, my admiration for American democracy is undimmed.”

NBC’s Savannah Guthrie said to Johnson, “There are reports that General Milley who is one of our top generals, was so concerned about military action the president might take, he called his Chinese counterpart.”

“Did you ever worry about anything like that in the waning days of the Trump administration ?” she asked.

Johnson replied, “To be frank, I didn’t. I thought, I mean you know, the polls seemed to, you know, oscillate to and fro, but then, the people made up their mind.”

Guthrie said, “People here perceive you as kind of two peas in a pod,” apparently referring to Trump.

Johnson responded, “It is the job of any prime minister of the U.K. to have a good relationship with the president of the United States. The US-UK relationship – we are doomed, we are fated, to get along, and that’s quite right. That applies to Donald Trump. It applies to Joe Biden.”

Johnson Can Work With Biden On ‘Climate Change’

Then Johnson praised Biden for being a partner in cutting CO2 emissions:

“What I will say about Joe Biden and dealing with the new American president, yes, it is a breath of fresh air in the sense of the some things on which we can really really work together. And, you knew I was gonna bring it up — climate change, he’s great on that.”

Johnson added, “And he wants to cut CO2. He wants to get to net zero by 2050, and he shares with me, a basic view that you can do this without penalizing the economy.”
