Trump To Visit Southern Border Before VP Kamala Harris

Former President Donald Trump announced that he's accepted an invitation from Texas Governor Greg Abbott to visit the southern border later this month.

Former President Donald Trump announced that he’s accepted an invitation from Texas Governor Greg Abbott to visit the southern border later this month.

The move comes as President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are under increasing pressure to visit the border and view the ongoing humanitarian crisis that has expanded on their watch.

“The Biden Administration inherited from me the strongest, safest, and most secure border in U.S history, and in mere weeks they turned it into the single worst border crisis in U.S history,” Trump claimed.

Biden’s predecessor carved the administration up in the statement, criticizing the White House for “handing control of our border over to cartels, criminals, and coyotes” while suggesting “our nation is now one giant sanctuary city.”

Trump will visit the southern border two weeks from today.

Trump Visits the Border, Harris Flies Over It

Trump’s visit to the border creates a difficult scenario for both Biden and Harris, with the former President acting more like a leader on the matter than either of them.

Harris in particular just engaged in her first international trip to discover the “root causes” of illegal immigration but has been heavily criticized for visiting Guatemala rather than the southern border of the United States.

The Vice President downplayed visiting the border to see the crisis for herself, suggesting it would amount to little more than a “grand gesture” and snapping at NBC host Lester Holt when he pointed out she hasn’t been there yet.

“And I haven’t been to Europe,” she fired back.

“Biden and Harris won’t even tour the scenes of the wreckage they created, or come down and visit with the Border Patrol and ICE heroes risking their lives to defend our Nation,” Trump continued.

He said, “the White House is doing everything it can to make their job totally impossible” describing the administration’s border crisis as “a grave and willful dereliction of duty.”

Texas Plans To Build Its Own Border Wall

Just last week, Governor Greg Abbott announced that Texas will push forward and build its own wall at the southern border.

Abbott signaled impatience with the current administration and the need to protect Texans with or without the help of the federal government.

“While securing the border is the federal government’s responsibility, Texas will not sit idly by as this crisis grows,” Abbott said in a statement.

Abbott said that he intends to fund the border wall through donations.

“When I do make the announcement later on this week, I will also be providing a link that you can click on and go to for everybody in the United States — really everybody in the entire world — who wants to help Texas build the border wall, there will be a place on there where they can contribute,” he said in a podcast interview.

Axios reported last week, “the number of migrants illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border this fiscal year is already the most since 2006 — with four months left to go.”

Vice President Harris, following her controversial comments, has since said she would, in fact, make a trip to the border.

The White House has yet to provide any specifics for such a visit at this time, however.

A trip following Trump’s leadership would seem like little more than a ‘grand gesture.’
