Trump Shreds ‘Overrated’ McConnell Over Infrastructure Bill

Trump McConnell

Former President Donald Trump spoke out on Tuesday to blast Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) as “overrated” for supporting the so-called bipartisan infrastructure bill.

Trump Torches McConnell

“Nobody will ever understand why Mitch McConnell allowed this non-infrastructure bill to be passed. He has given up all of his leverage for the big whopper of a bill that will follow,” Trump said in a statement, according to The Hill.

“I have quietly said for years that Mitch McConnell is the most overrated man in politics—now I don’t have to be quiet anymore,” he added. “He is working so hard to give Biden a victory, now they’ll go for the big one, including the biggest tax increases in the history of our Country.”

Trump’s Previous Statement

Trump had blasted both McConnell and the infrastructure bill as a whole earlier this week as well.

“Joe Biden’s infrastructure bill is a disgrace,” Trump said, according to Newsweek. “If Mitch McConnell was smart, which we’ve seen no evidence of, he would use the debt ceiling card to negotiate a good infrastructure package.”

“This is a 2,700 page bill that no one could have possibly read – they would need to take speed reading courses,” the statement goes on,” he continued. “It is a gift to the Democrat Party, compliments of Mitch McConnell and some RINOs, who have no idea what they are doing.”

Trump Doubles Down

Not stopping there, Trump proceeded to call out specific issues with the bill.

“There is very little on infrastructure in all of those pages. Instead, they track your driving so they can tax you,” he explained. “It is Joe Biden’s form of a gas tax but far bigger, far higher and, mark my words, far worse. They want to track you everywhere you go and watch everything you do!”

Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) tried to get Trump to support the infrastructure bill, but the former president was not having any of it, according to Yahoo News.

“I would hope that the President [Trump] at the end will be supportive,” Portman said at the end of July. “I’m going to try to keep him informed of what we’re doing, because I think it’s important that we continue to have this be bipartisan. It’s not a victory for one party or the other, in my view, it’s a victory for the American people.”
