Trump Jokes About Midterm Recounts and Mueller During Turkey Pardon

President Donald Trump mocked the seemingly endless midterm vote recounts, Robert Mueller’s special counsel, and the obstructionist 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in a speech given before the 2018 pre-Thanksgiving presidential turkey pardon.

During the speech, Donald Trump announced that a turkey named Peas had won a public vote on the White House website to be guest of honor, while a turkey named Carrots was the runner-up. “This was a fair election … unfortunately, Carrots refused to concede and demanded a recount. We’re still fighting with Carrots.”

That was only the first turkey joke. Watch below:

“Even though Peas and Carrots have received a presidential pardon, I have warned them that House Democrats are likely to issue them both subpoenas,” he said, mocking Robert Mueller’s special counsel. But despite the pardons, Trump said, “Unfortunately I can’t guarantee that your pardons won’t be enjoined by the Ninth Circuit. It always happens.”

The 9th Circuit has routinely ruled against Trump. Most recently, a lawsuit challenging Trump’s executive order barring members of the migrant caravan from claiming asylum was appealed up to the 9th Circuit, which Trump immediately called a “disgrace.”

And when Trump pardoned the turkey, he added a word. “Peas, I hereby grant you a full pardon.”

Republicans score pre-Thanksgiving victories

The recount efforts in Florida and Georgia that Trump joked about have gone in his favor, while Democrat claims about “rigged” elections proved to be without merit. In fact, the only attempt at “rigging” the election came from Democrats themselves, particularly those in Broward County. At least one race that previously was won by a Republican was flipped to a Democrat by a razor-thin margin due to their tampering.

Florida Republican candidate Matthew Caldwell initially been ahead by 40,000 votes on election day, before new votes mysteriously began tricking in on the days that followed, resulting him losing by a mere 0.06% margin. Caldwell alleges that Broward counted ballots were cast past the 7PM deadline that should’ve been voided. His lawsuit claims that 6,873 votes were logged at the office of Brenda Snipes (supervisor of elections in Broward)  PM poll closing deadline. Caldwell lost by just over 5,000 votes. Snipes had previously been sued last year for destroying ballots, illegally destroyed 6,000 ballots in 2016 after a judge ordered her them preserved, and lost 58,000 absentee ballots in 2004. She finally resigned this week.

As for that joke about more pardons coming, I’m not entirely convinced Trump was joking.
