Just minutes into the State of the Union address tonight, President Donald Trump paid special respect to Congressman Steve Scalise (R-LA).
As Trump opined, “With us tonight is one of the toughest people ever to serve in this House — a guy who took a bullet, almost died, and was back to work three and a half months later: the legend from Louisiana, Congressman Steve Scalise,” Mr. Trump said. “In the aftermath of that terrible shooting, we came together, not as Republicans or Democrats, but as representatives of the people. But it is not enough to come together only in times of tragedy. Tonight, I call upon all of us to set aside our differences, to seek out common ground, and to summon the unity we need to deliver for the people we were elected to serve.”
Then, Scalise received a hero’s welcome and thunderous applause. AWESOME!

Then, Trump ended with a classic line:
The Louisiana congressman rose to his feet and gave the president a salute.
“I think they like you, Steve,” Trump replied.
Scalise was critically injured on June 14, 2017 during the horrific act of violence perpetrated on House members prior to the 2017 Congressional baseball game.
The shooter, James Hodgkinson, purposely attacked Republican members. The attack was believed to be politically motivated.
Trump then thanked the Capitol police officers, the Alexandria Police, and the doctors, nurses, and paramedics who saved the lives of those on the field that day. The baseball field in Alexandria is a gun-free zone.
May God bless Rep. Steve Scalise. And bless all those who were injured that day and those who heroically stepped into the fray to prevent further injury.
Both Democrats and Republicans stood to applaud Scalise.
