President Trump on Monday urged a “hapless” Georgia Governor Brian Kemp to overrule Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger on the matter of matching ballot signatures during the state’s recount effort.
Both Kemp and Raffensperger are Republicans.
Georgia adopted emergency rules ahead of the election to protect the privacy of the voter by calling for the separation of the ballot from the envelope.
Meaning, as Raffensperger has insisted, “matching the signature on the outer envelope to the absentee ballot on the inside is impossible.”
The President’s campaign has asserted for quite some time that any recount in Georgia “would be a sham” without signature matching.
“Why won’t Governor [Brian Kemp], the hapless Governor of Georgia, use his emergency powers, which can be easily done, to overrule his obstinate Secretary of State, and do a match of signatures on envelopes,” Trump tweeted.
“It will be a ‘goldmine’ of fraud, and we will easily WIN the state,” he claimed.
The President also suggested it would be “simple” to just try to match up the number of ballots with the number of envelopes, with a greater number of ballots indicating fraudulent activity.

Trump Slams Brian Kemp As Campaign Files 5th Recount Request
The Trump campaign made a 5th request to Raffensperger to perform an “immediate audit of the signatures on all absentee ballot applications and absentee ballot envelopes received” during the election.
A statement indicates the campaign believes there are “between 38,250 and 45,626 illegal votes from the absentee ballots alone.”
Certified results indicate Biden won the state of Georgia by 12,670 votes.
“It is not possible for you to accurately certify the results in the presidential race from the November 3, 2020, election until and unless there is a thorough audit of the signatures, which we have now requested four times in writing prior to this request,” a statement by Trump campaign attorneys reads.
“You cannot in good faith conclude the ongoing statutory recount until you have instituted a signature matching audit.”
In an interview over the weekend, President Trump indicated he was “ashamed” that he had endorsed Brian Kemp in his gubernatorial race against fictitious governor Stacey Abrams.

Judge Blocks Plan To Erase Dominion Voting Machines in Georgia
Meanwhile, a judge in Georgia blocked plans to wipe or reset voting machines used in three counties in the state while disputes are being litigated.
The order applies to Dominion voting machines in Cobb, Gwinnett and Cherokee counties, but does not apply to Georgia’s other 156 counties.
“Georgia’s election process depends entirely on voting machines, tabulators and software purchased from Dominion Voting Systems Corporation (‘Dominion’) that was compromised,” a Republican-led lawsuit reads.
“Computerized vote recording and tabulations are controlled by software programs that were designed to cheat, and which were open to human manipulation,” it continues.

The judge has given Dominion until Wednesday “to file a brief setting forth in detail the factual bases they have, if any, against allowing … forensic inspections” of the machines in the three aforementioned counties.
Kemp and Raffensperger are both named as defendants in the lawsuit.
Dominion has maintained it is “physically impossible” to switch votes on their machines.
In their response to the lawsuit, Dominion argued that “allowing such forensic inspections would pose substantial security and proprietary/trade secret risks.”
