Earlier this week, we reported that the conservative country music star Jason Aldean was defending his anti-woke anthem “Try That In A Small Town” after CMT pulled its music video due to liberal outrage. Now, the former President Donald Trump is speaking out to defend both Aldean and his song.

Trump Stands By Aldean

Trump took to Truth Social early Thursday morning to urge his followers to support Aldean, who he described as a “fantastic guy.”

“Jason Aldean is a fantastic guy who just came out with a great new song,” Trump wrote. “Support Jason all the way. MAGA!!!”

‘Try That In A Small Town’

“Try That In A Small Town” came out back in May, and it immediately resonated with fans, as its lyrics are about American small towns not putting up with riots and lawlessness that many cities across the country were hit with in the summer of 2020, according to Fox News.

Lyrics to the song include:

“Got a gun that my granddad gave me, They say one day they’re gonna round up, Well, that s–t might fly in the city, good luck, Try that in a small town, See how far ya make it down the road, You cross that line, it won’t take long, For you to find out, I recommend you don’t, Try that in a small town.”

The music video for the song was shot outside the Maury County Courthouse in Columbia, Tennessee, where the lynching of an 18 year-old black man took place in 1927. The music video also features clips of protesters vandalizing cities, flipping off police officers and burning flags.

TackleBox, the production company that shot the music video, has stated that the courthouse is a “popular filming location outside of Nashville.” It added that Aldean did not pick this location, and that “any alternative narrative suggesting the music video’s location decision is false.”

Aldean Defends His Song After CMT Pulls Music Video

In the wake of liberal outrage over this music video, CMT has confirmed that it has been pulled from the network’s rotation, though it has offered no explanation as to why it did this.

Aldean issued a statement on Tuesday defending both himself and his song from the outrage that has poured in about it from leftwing haters.

“In the past 24 hours I have been accused of releasing a pro-lynching song (a song that has been out since May) and was subject to the comparison that I (direct quote) was not too pleased with the nationwide BLM protests,” he said. “These references are not only meritless, but dangerous. There is not a single lyric in the song that references race or points to it- and there isn’t a single video clip that isn’t real news footage -and while I can try and respect others to have their own interpretation of a song with music- this one goes too far.”

“‘Try That In A Small Town,’ for me, refers to the feeling of a community that I had growing up, where we took care of our neighbors, regardless of differences of background or belief,” he later added. “Because they were our neighbors, and that was above any differences. My political views have never been something I’ve hidden from, and I know that a lot of us in this Country don’t agree on how we get back to a sense of normalcy where we go at least a day without a headline that keeps us up at night. But the desire for it to- that’s what this song is about.”

Aldean’s Conservative Views

Aldean is frequently targeted by the left because he is one of the few people in the entertainment world who has been unapologetically open about his conservative pro-Trump views. In a 2021 interview, he opened up about what it’s like to be a Trump supporter in the entertainment world.

“At some point it’s gotten to where if you’re a conservative in this business, you’re not allowed to speak,” Aldean said at the time, according to Music Mayhem. “Trust me, I have a lot of friends in this business that think the way I think, and a lot of them are really scared to stand up and say anything for fear of backlash or whatever the case may be.”

“To me, it’s hard for to go lay my head down at night with a clear conscience, feeling like I’m a coward for not saying the things that I want to say, or I feel like need to be said,” he continued.

Aldean and Trump are also close personal friends who frequently can be spotted playing golf together in Florida.

“Try That In A Small Town” is a powerful anthem that resonates with millions of conservative Americans, so it’s no wonder that the hateful left is doing whatever they can to cancel it. We applaud Trump for standing by Aldean and his song, and we hope more public figures will have the guts to do the same thing!
