The one thing that always seems to come back and bite Democrats is unintended consequences. And there is a rather interesting one arising from the show trial that is the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 Capitol riot.

Former Trump chief White House strategist Steve Bannon’s “War Room” podcast has jumped into Apple’s top ten news podcasts, just as Bannon’s contempt of congress trial gets under way with jury selection and testimony beginning this week.

Interesting Timing

Steve Bannon goes on trial for two contempt of Congress charges for refusing to speak to the January 6 Committee. If convicted, he could face up to 30 days in jail for each charge.

But the trial seems to have an upside for Bannon. According to Chartable, a podcast metrics company, “War Room” is at a monthly high ranking of 44 among all U.S. Apple podcasts. Among Apple’s streaming service podcasts, it is in the top 10.

July has been good for the “War Room” podcast. On July 5, it rose to 21 in Apple’s news podcast category. Just two days later on July 7, it climbed into the top 10, and overall came in at number seven. By Wednesday of that week, it was sitting at number nine.

Bannon may end up having to thank the Jan. 6 Committee for proving there is no such thing as bad publicity. Because on June 30, “War Room” was at 111 of all podcasts. By July 20, it came in at 44.

Steve Bannon has been defiant of the one sided investigation from the start. He turned himself in at the Washington, D.C. FBI field office following his indictment. He had a message then for supporters, saying:

“I don’t want anybody to take their eye off the ball of what we do every day. We got the Hispanics coming on our side, African Americans coming on our side. We’re taking down the Biden regime every day. Remember: Signal not noise. This is all noise, that’s signal.”

Bannon’s boldness didn’t stop there. As he left the FBI office, he spoke directly to President Joe Biden, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland:

“I’m telling you right now, this is going to be the misdemeanor from hell for Merrick GarlandNancy Pelosi and Joe Biden. … We’re going on the offense. They took on the wrong guy this time; they took on the wrong guys.”

All About Going After Trump Associates

Steve Bannon is only the latest former Trump associate the January 6 has attempted to make an example of. Subpoenas have gone out to roughly 30 former Trump administration officials including former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, former White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany, former senior advisor Stephen Miller, and campaign official Katrina Pierson.

At the time of his indictment, Bannon’s daughter Maureen called the Committee “a political witch hunt,” and added, “I think that this regime is deflecting on crisis after crisis after crisis that’s hitting the White House. So they’re going after my dad to make it seem like there’s nothing bad going on.”

One of the reasons for the uptick in Bannon’s “War Room” listeners could be directions from the man himself after the indictments came down. He cheered his supporters on with by reminding them, ‘Remember, there are no whining and no tears in the War Room.’
