Will he or won’t he? That’s been the question on the mind of nearly everyone in America regarding President Trump running for office again in three years.
When Trump joined Fox News host Greg Gutfeld to ruminate about the question, he identified a potential downside to running for the White House again in 2024 – CNN’s ratings would go back up.
Trump’s remarks were aired in a video segment of an interview with Gutfeld.
The pair began discussing the anti-Trump network with Gutfeld lamenting that CNN only reports stories that support a defunding the police narrative.
“They denied the rising crime that’s going on because of the defunding of the police ideology and the demoralization of the cops,” he charged. “None of the networks are covering it except for Fox.”
Gutfeld later quipped, “One problem with you running for president again is that you’re going to save CNN. You are aware of that.”
“That’s a problem,” Trump replied without missing a beat. “I am very proud of what I’ve done for them. They are down 81%.”

Trump 2024 Might Be CNN’s Only Hope
Nielsen data has shown CNN’s ratings have fallen on hard times in the post-Trump era, failing to hit 1 million viewers during daytime programming over 50% of the time over the past three months.
In primetime, they only eclipsed the 1 million viewer mark on 12 of the past 92 days.
Their highest-rated primetime show featuring anchor Chris Cuomo saw ratings plunge in the wake of his brother Governor Andrew Cuomo’s resignation and a NY Attorney General report that showed he helped craft a defense for big bro’s multiple sexual harassment allegations.

Fox News analyst Joe Concha believes the only thing that can throw CNN a lifeline would be a Trump 2024 campaign.
“When you lose your primary focus of the past five years, and cheerleading for Joe Biden just doesn’t make for compelling TV, the only hope is that Trump comes back to the big stage,” Concha said.
And while there is an element of humor to the analysis of CNN’s ratings by Trump, Gutfeld, and Concha, the latter adds a sobering point that it will be to the detriment of the American viewer.
“No matter, most of the media will focus on Trump anyway in the most negative and hostile manner possible,” he explains.
“Ratings – yeah, they’ll probably go back up as the integrity and credibility of a once-proud media industry will somehow sink to new lows.”

CNN’s Hard Times
CNN reporter Jim Acosta, just three short months into President Biden’s term, admitted that journalists are suffering from “post-Trump stress disorder” ever since Trump left the White House.
But he remained upbeat about the future.
“We did cover the news before Donald Trump came along, and we did it pretty well, and there’s going to be plenty of stuff in the news out there that doesn’t have to have Donald Trump in the headlines for us to continue to exist,” he suggested.

Others have noticed CNN’s failings as well.
Popular podcast host Joe Rogan, delivered an epic smackdown when he mocked CNN for their ratings during the pre-Trump 2024 era and called Brian Stelter’s show out in particular saying it’s “f***ing terrible.”
He went on to blast Stelter for fawning over White House Press Secretary Jan Psaki during an especially embarrassing interview.
“How about Brian Stelter talking to the press secretary, ‘What are we doing wrong? What are we doing wrong?’” Rogan teased. “Like, hey motherf***er, you’re supposed to be a journalist.”

“Hey motherf***er, you’re supposed to be a journalist” is pretty much an evergreen response after watching any segment on CNN.

… he got railroaded by Michael Wolff, author of several anti-Trump books, accusing him of being the “flip side of Donald Trump.”
Wolff hammered away at Stelter in an interview with the CNN anchor this past July, saying he is “one of the reasons” that “people can’t stand the media.”

And of course, legendary journalist Ted Koppel in 2018 predicted CNN’s current predicament telling Stelter and his network their “ratings would be in the toilet without Donald Trump.”
Video: To consternation of @BrianStelter, Ted Koppel contended during 10/1 Kalb Report @PressClubDC: “You would be lost without @realDonaldTrump. CNN’s ratings would be in the toilet without Trump.” Stelter: “Ted, you know that’s not true. You’re playing for laughs.” #NPCLive pic.twitter.com/XGZl9yNzqh
