Dem Congressman Suggests Taking Up Arms to Oppose President Trump

Tom Suozzi

Wait a minute, Democrats are now all of a sudden fans of the Second Amendment?

A Long Island Democrat congressman was recently caught on video at a town hall suggesting constituents may have to take up arms in opposition to the President.

“It’s really a matter of putting public pressure on the president,” Rep. Tom Suozzi suggested in a video of the March 12 meeting. He was responding to a question about the system of checks and balances in the courts.

“This is where the Second Amendment comes in, quite frankly, because you know, what if the president was to ignore the courts? What would you do? What would we do?”

Unsurprisingly, one of the congressman’s supporters asked him, “What’s the Second Amendment?”

According to the New York Post, Suozzi explained “The Second Amendment is the right to bear arms,” to which some in the crowd responded with nervous laughter.

Suozzi’s team denied that he was instigating an armed rebellion against the President of the United States, something which should certainly be investigated by the Secret Service.

The denial included a quote, however, that indicated that’s exactly what he’s calling for.

His campaign sent a quote from Thomas Jefferson to the Post which reads, “What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance. Let them take arms.”

These comments are startling, considering Suozzi’s adamant support for gun control in the wake of a high school shooting in Parkland, Florida.

Suozzi has a tweet pinned to his profile which talks about Democrats and Republicans coming together to reduce gun violence.

Kind of hard to come together with a party that wants to engage in an armed overthrow of the rightfully elected President, wouldn’t you say?

National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Chris Martin was outraged at the comments.

“This video is incredibly disturbing,” Martin charged. “It’s surreal to watch a sitting member of Congress suggest that his constituents should take up arms against the president of the United States.”

Suozzi is seeking re-election in the fall for a congressional seat he earned in 2016.
