Texas Governor Greg Abbott Sending National Guard To Address Border Crisis

Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced that he is deploying National Guard troops to the southern border to address what he calls a "crisis."

Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced that he is deploying National Guard troops to the southern border to address what he calls a “crisis.”

Abbott (R) announced Operation Lone Star over the weekend to address the smuggling of people and drugs into the state, something he blames on the current administration.

“The crisis at our southern border continues to escalate because of Biden Administration policies that refuse to secure the border and invite illegal immigration,” he said.

“Texas supports legal immigration but will not be an accomplice to the open border policies that cause, rather than prevent, a humanitarian crisis in our state and endanger the lives of Texans,” added Abbott.

The governor warned that he would “surge” resources and law enforcement in an effort to combat the crisis at the border.

National Guard to Help Secure Our Border

DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, recently asked by reporters if there is a crisis developing at the southern border replied, “No.”

“The men and women of the Department of Homeland Security are working around the clock seven days a week to ensure that we do not have a crisis at the border—that we manage the challenge, as acute as the challenge is,” Mayorkas said.

A Wall Street Journal report indicates, to the contrary, arrests of unaccompanied immigrant children at the southern border have “surged.”

USA Today published a column revealing that “migrant children who arrive with a relative who isn’t their mother or father are still being separated from them and held for weeks under the Biden administration.”

Even the media seems skeptical of the administration’s efforts to downplay the crisis at the border.

PBS NewsHour reporter Yamiche Alcindor admitted, “You have a White House that is wanting to say that there’s not a crisis at the border, but the numbers don’t lie.”

You “have this situation where people are increasingly coming to the border,” Associated Press reporter Julie Pace said.

“Families with young children do feel like this is a moment where they can get into the United States,” she added. “They do feel like there’s going to be a more receptive policy from the Biden administration.”

Indeed, a Honduran migrant traveling in a caravan of thousands to the United States last month said he was making the journey because President Biden “is going to help all of us.”

“They don’t have a plan at the moment to get this under control,” added Pace.

Abbott, thankfully, has a plan and is acting on it.

The Guard’s Mistreatment in DC

The Texas National Guard may view border duty as a welcome respite from being used as props to help protect the Capitol building in Washington, D.C.

Abbott back in January called the Texas National Guard home from Washington following reports that troops were being banished to a parking garage.

Troops have also complained of “gastrointestinal” issues after reportedly being served undercooked meals and food contaminated with metal shavings.

While President Biden continues to deny reality, Republican Governor Greg Abbott is taking decisive action to protect border communities by properly making use of the National Guard.
