A Tax Foundation analysis finds President Trump's tariffs on China, Canada, Mexico and the EU cost the average U.S. household $1,000 in 2025, with costs projected to rise to $1,300 in 2026 if policies remain unchanged. The nonpartisan group calls the tariffs the largest tax increase as a percent of GDP since 1993, as most costs pass to consumers via higher prices on goods like electronics, food and housing materials.
