SCOTUS Strikes Trump's IEEPA Tariffs, Future Uncertain

The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 on February 20, 2026, that President Trump's sweeping tariffs on imports from Canada, China, Mexico, and globally under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) exceed presidential authority, as tariff power belongs to Congress per the Constitution. Chief Justice Roberts wrote that IEEPA's language to "regulate importation" doesn't cover revenue-raising tariffs like the fentanyl and reciprocal orders.
