ICE Agent Kills U.S. Citizen in Texas Shooting

Nearly a year ago, on March 15, 2025, ICE agents from Homeland Security Investigations fatally shot 23-year-old U.S. citizen Ruben Ray Martinez in South Padre Island, Texas, while assisting local police with traffic control after a car crash. Records show Martinez accelerated his vehicle, striking one agent who ended up on the hood, prompting another agent to fire multiple rounds through the driver's window in what DHS calls a defensive action to protect agents and the public.
