Birthrate Plunges to Crisis Levels in US
March 3, 2026·about 2 hours ago·via The New York Times

America's birthrate has crashed to a record low of 1.6 births per woman in 2024, well below the 2.1 replacement level needed to sustain our population, and the Congressional Budget Office projects it will drop further to 1.58 this year and 1.53 by 2036. Deaths now outpace births faster than expected, with net negative migration hitting the U.S. for the first time in 50 years, pushing us toward a demographic disaster that threatens economic growth and Social Security.
