A statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee that stood for nearly a century in Charlottesville, Virginia, has reportedly been melted down in a ‘secret’ ceremonial event.

The Washington Post reported late last month that the statue of Lee had been “melted down in secret” by Charlottesville’s black history museum, though they would not indicate the name of the foundry that did the work for “fears of violence.”

Andrea Douglas, the museum’s executive director, taunted those who might object to the statue’s removal.

“Well, they can’t put Humpty Dumpty back together again,” she said. “There will be no tape for that.”

Robert E. Lee Statue ‘Secretly’ Melted Down

Upon the destruction of the Robert E. Lee statue, the Washington Post reports that the bronze ingots made from the remaining material will be made into public artwork to be displayed in Charlottesville.

NPR, which also covered the ‘secret’ melting down ceremony, said the proposal from a group behind the project is meant to “melt it down and create a more inclusive public art installation.”

“We want to transform something that has been toxic in the Charlottesville community,” one of the project’s organizers explained.

“We want to transform it into a piece of art that the community can be can be proud of, and gather around and not feel excluded or intimidated.”

The answer, it seems, is to not only rewrite history but to erase it outright.

Where Will It Stop?

Former President Donald Trump has consistently asked where we, as a nation, will draw a line on the destruction of statues people find offensive, often noting that Presidents Thomas Jefferson and George Washington owned slaves.

Trump half-joked several years ago that the left would never stop and that statues of Washington would be coming down if we continue to go down this path.

“George Washington was a slave owner… Are we gonna take down statues to George Washington? How about Thomas Jefferson?” Trump asked at the time. “Are we going to take down the statue? Because he was a major slave owner.”

He made those comments at the infamous ‘fine people’ hoax presser.

Trump argued that “changing history” and “changing culture” is not the way to handle controversial events decades upon decades in the past.

“Our culture is being destroyed and our history and heritage, both good and bad, are being extinguished by the Radical Left, and we can’t let that happen!” he said.

The question becomes – where will this all end?

Would it be much of a stretch to see statues of our Founding Fathers being melted down in the future because of their own history?
