Donald Trump lashed out at Stacey Abrams on Wednesday, following an announcement that she will make another run for governor of Georgia in 2022.

Abrams’ announcement sets up a potential rematch of the hotly contested race in 2018 where she lost to current Governor Brian Kemp by less than two percentage points.

The Democrat spent much of the time since her defeat alternately claiming she had the election stolen from her or that she actually had won.

“I’ve never stopped fighting for Georgia,” a campaign website reads. “I’ve never lost faith that – together – we can build a brighter future for all of us.”

Trump Slams Stacey Abrams

Former President Donald Trump couldn’t help but interject himself into the Georgia governor race, issuing a statement mocking Stacey Abrams’ announcement.

He even offered up a new nickname in the process.

“Stacey ‘The Hoax’ Abrams has just announced that she’s running for Governor of Georgia,” he told followers.

“I beat her single-handedly, without much of a candidate, in 2018,” added Trump, also taking a shot at Kemp. “I’ll beat her again.”

Trump’s comments, of course, represent the claim that anybody he endorses on the Republican side of things would defeat both Kemp and Abrams. There is no love lost between Trump and Kemp.

“The MAGA base will just not vote for him,” Trump added. “But some good Republican will run, and some good Republican will get my endorsement, and some good Republican will WIN!”

The former President’s statement is also littered with the prerequisite references to election integrity.

Abrams Insists She’s Not Delusional

Kemp responded to news of Abrams’ run in 2022 by referencing her refusal to accept the results of their last contest, calling it her “never-ending campaign for power.”

Indeed, while Trump has been pilloried by the media for refusing to accept election results, Stacey Abrams has been heralded as a hero.

Abrams never accepted her 2018 election loss and pretended, at times, that things actually turned out otherwise.

She told supporters at a luncheon in Houston in 2019 that she wasn’t “delusional” mere moments after declaring “we won” the Georgia gubernatorial race.

Abrams has made similar claims – that she won the race for governor in 2018, despite election results showing she was soundly defeated by nearly 55,000 votes.

Which begs the question – If she won in 2018, does this make her 2022 run a reelection campaign?

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Abrams’ announcement sets up “a titanic showdown between two longtime political rivals … That is, if Kemp survives a fight for the GOP nomination first.”

Vernon Jones, a black former Democrat and supporter of President Trump, announced this past spring that he will challenge Kemp in the Republican gubernatorial primary in 2022.
