Squad Member Cori Bush Mocked For Calling Women ‘Birthing People’ As Mother’s Day Approaches

Representative Cori Bush made her bid for gold in the Woke Olympics, referring to women as “birthing people” in a congressional hearing just days before Mother’s Day.

Bush (D-MO), a far-left member of the ‘Squad,’ spoke during a House Oversight Committee hearing on Thursday on the rising maternal death rate among black expectant mothers.

In her testimony, she recalled her own tragic experience with difficult pregnancies and vowed to help others in similar situations.

“I am committed to doing the absolute most to protect mothers, to protect black babies, to protect black birthing people and to save lives,” she told the panel.

Bush tweeted a video of her testimony adding, “Every day, black birthing people and our babies die because our doctors don’t believe our pain.”

Bush Mocked For Calling Mothers ‘Birthing People’

Imagine for a moment, if a Republican had referred to women in a congressional hearing as “birthing people.”

Some viewers couldn’t help but comment on Bush’s characterization of women as such.

“This is s***. They’re called mothers,” Tim Carney, columnist for the Washington Examiner, wrote. “Calling them ‘birthing people’ is reducing them to a function – making them not human.”

Frank Fleming, a writer for the satirical site The Babylon Bee, joked: “One of these days we really need to come up with a word for ‘female human.'”

Daily Wire writer Emily Zanotti blasted Bush’s use of the term as “absolutely insulting.”

Bush used the term ‘mother’ and ‘women’ throughout her speech before Congress, but was clearly trying to include transgendered people so as not to offend.

She then attacked her critics for saying something so profoundly dumb that her original message was lost.

“I testified in front of Congress about nearly losing both of my children during childbirth because doctors didn’t believe my pain,” Bush said.

“Republicans got more upset about me using gender-inclusive language in my testimony than my babies nearly dying.”

MOMMIES ACT

Adding to the absurdity of the phrase was Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), another member of the Squad, using it while re-introducing legislation to expand Medicaid coverage for “birthing people.”

The name of that bill?

The Healthy MOMMIES ACT.

No, I’m not kidding.

“[Senator Cory Booker] and I re-introduced the MOMMIES Act to expand Medicaid coverage for birthing people [and] promote community-based, holistic approaches to maternity care,” she tweeted.

“Every pregnant person should be listened to and treated with dignity and respect during and after childbirth.”

The ‘MOMMIES’ in MOMMIES Act stands for “Maximizing Outcomes for Moms through Medicaid Improvement and Enhancement of Services.”

Just not actual motherhood, apparently.

“If you’re willing to go so far out of your way to avoid offending trans men that you’d describe pregnant women with the absurd term ‘birthing people,’ why the hell would you call your legislation the ‘MOMMIES Act’ and refer to ‘maternity care'”? writes Hot Air’s Allahpundit.

A reasonable question.

While we all ponder that, I’d like to wish all of our readers who are mothers a happy and joyous Birthing Person’s Day this Sunday.
