Senator Mitt Romney (R-Ut) spoke out on Tuesday to say that the Republican Party should distance itself from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) as GOP leaders in the House are trying to figure out how to handle her.

Romney Slams Marjorie Taylor Greene

“I think we should have nothing to do with Marjorie Taylor Greene, and think we should repudiate the things she said and move away from her,” Romney said, according to The Hill.

Democrats have been calling for Greene to be removed from her House committees after past controversial posts from her were unearthed on social media.

These posts included pushing controversial conspiracy theories about 9/11 and school shootings, and support for posts calling for top Democrats to be harmed physically.

Romney Doubles Down

Romney said that it is crucial that the Republican Party “separate ourselves from the people in the wacky weeds.”

“If we don’t, then our opposition tries to brand us with their image and with their point of view, which has been detrimental to any party that doesn’t do that,” he added.

Romney had previously taken to Twitter to blast Greene after it was reported that she’d had a call with former President Donald Trump this past week.

“Lies of a feather flock together: Marjorie Taylor Greene’s nonsense and the ‘big lie’ of a stolen election,” Romney tweeted.

Mitch McConnell Calls Greene A ‘Cancer’

This comes after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) released a statement blasting Greene as a “cancer” to the GOP.

“Loony lies and conspiracy theories are cancer for the Republican Party and our country,” McConnell said.

“Somebody who’s suggested that perhaps no airplane hit the Pentagon on 9/11, that horrifying school shootings were pre-staged, and that the Clintons crashed JFK Jr.’s airplane is not living in reality,” he added.

Greene wasted no time in firing back at McConnell on Twitter.

“The real cancer for the Republican Party is weak Republicans who only know how to lose gracefully,” she tweeted. “This is why we are losing our country.”
