The most influential and powerful union president in America said he has not ruled out supporting President Donald J. Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign.

In a wide-ranging interview, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka spoke to legendary conservative reporter John Gizzi at Newsmax about supporting Trump in 2020, when Trumka replied, “Well, he will be looked at. Everyone will be looked at.”

As you’re probably aware, the AFL-CIO has endorsed every Democrat for President since 1956 with the exception of George McGovern (1972). But Trumka reiterated that his organization “Will consider every candidate who’s running in 2020. The AFL-CIO has 56 unions and they represent more than 12 million retired and active employees. Trumka noted just how badly Hillary Clinton did with union members in 2016: “Trump got 3% more of our members than Romney did in 2012, but Hillary Clinton, unfortunately for her, got 10% less of our members than Obama did in 2012. And some didn’t vote for President or some voted third party.”

Trump went on to explain just why Trump has higher approval numbers among union members, while Hillary Clinton’s support dropped: “Because people were mad. They were looking for someone who was going to change the economy. They felt there were assaults on their health care and assaults on their pensions. People were looking for someone who will shake up the status quo because the economy wasn’t working for them. Their wages were flattened and they found that candidate in Donald Trump.”

Trumka went on to explain that Trump campaigned on a platform to “lift up workers and reign in Wall Street.” As he’s still closely affiliated with Democrat politics, Trumka was quick to note he believes that most of Trump’s promises for working Americans “were either broken or unfulfilled” despite low unemployment and an impressive 4.1% growth in GDP. However, he did add that Trump’s doing the right thing on trade, as AFL-CIO members support the plan to rewrite the North American Free Tree Agreement (NAFTA).

This is essentially Trumka admitting that President Trump’s no-nonsense style and his policies are exactly in line with what helps union members. Trumka, who has helped funnel countless millions into Democrat Party campaign efforts, can’t suppress the reality that Trump is more popular than the liberal media wants you to know.
