Report: Illinois Providing $9,000 In Rental Assistance To Illegal Immigrants In Chicago

Illegal immigrants in Illinois are receiving up to $9,000 in rental assistance over a 6-month period according to a report.

Illegal immigrants in Illinois are receiving up to $9,000 in rental assistance over a 6-month period, according to a report from Fox 32 in Chicago.

The outlet spoke to Cristina Pacione-Zayas, the city’s first deputy chief of staff, about the impact that illegal aliens being bussed into the city are having on both the city and the state financially.

And the numbers are eye-watering, starting with rental assistance being provided to help move some individuals out of city shelters.

Fox 32 notes that the state of Illinois is funding “temporary housing, including rented apartments and homes” for the illegal immigrants to the tune of “$9,000 in rental assistance over a 6-month period, which includes assistance with moving in and a starter kit to furnish the apartment.”

$42 Million To Assists Illegal Immigrants In Obtaining Housing

As with any blue city, one has to take into account the affordability of housing, which in most Democrat-run cities is off the charts. Chicago is no different, with rent exceeding $1,700 per month for an apartment under 700 square feet, according to Apartments.com.

Still, as an ordinary resident of the city of Chicago, it’d be hard not to think that $1,500 in rental assistance per month would surely be helpful, and a furniture starting kit to boot?

“That rent lasts for six months and ideally people would have started their legal process, secured legal work authorization and be able to sustain that apartment,” said Pacione-Zayas.

Ideally? What is ideally? Ideally, in my opinion, illegal immigrants would strive to become legal immigrants instead, earning assistance in getting on their feet because they followed the law.

Fox 32 tallied up the price tag that both the city of Chicago and the state of Illinois are doling out to illegal immigrants, and it’s nothing short of staggering.

The city has allocated $4 million to assist illegal aliens in obtaining temporary housing, with the state contributing an additional $38 million.

Not Enough To Keep Them In Chicago

As this report first aired in late October, it would appear the illegal immigrants in Chicago weren’t overly impressed with the $9,000 in rental assistance being offered.

The Political Insider reported in November that some were so fed up with harsh weather, notorious crime rates, and an inability to find lucrative work in Chicago that they were moving back home to Venezuela.

They were choosing Venezuela over a major city in America.

“The American Dream doesn’t exist anymore,” one such individual told the Chicago Tribune at the time. “There’s nothing here for us.”

Nothing except $9,000 in assistance.

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker (D) complained previously that the federal government wasn’t helping the state fund their ongoing migrant crisis, which resulted in well over 11,000 people being housed in shelters.

“Unfortunately, the welcome and aid Illinois has been providing to these asylum seekers has not been matched with support by the federal government,” Pritzker said in a letter to President Joe Biden. “Most critically, the federal government’s lack of intervention and coordination at the border has created an untenable situation for Illinois.”

However, Pritzker was singing a different tune prior to illegal immigrants being bussed and dropped off in Chicago which, as actor Jussie Smollett once claimed, is “MAGA country.”

Two years ago, Pritzker announced that he was signing legislation that would expand protections for illegal immigrant and refugee communities.

Protections that he declared would make Illinois “the most welcoming state in the nation.”

At $1,500 per month, he wasn’t kidding. But perhaps not too welcoming.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has begun filing dozens of lawsuits against bus companies attempting to drop illegal aliens off in the city.

Perhaps Mayor Johnson’s ire – and lawsuits – should be directed at the federal government instead. None of these people would be on busses to Chicago if they were stopped at the southern border first.
