President Trump Preparing for Full White House Reboot

President Trump isn’t just about to hit the “restart” button. He’s pulling the machine clean out of its socket and tossing it out the window.

Gabriel Sherman at Vanity Fair is reporting that Trump is furious, and is preparing for a complete and total reset of his current West Wing. This isn’t just any shakeup, either. It’s a full-blown, full-scale ousting of the major White House players.

Sherman writes:

Sources said that the first officials to go will be Chief of Staff John Kelly and National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster, both of whom Trump has clashed with for months. On Tuesday, Trump met with John Bolton in the Oval Office. When he plans to visit Mar-a-Lago this weekend, Trump is expected to interview more candidates for both positions, according to two sources. “He’s going for a clean slate,” one source said. Cohn had been lobbying to replace Kelly as chief, two sources said, and quit when he didn’t get the job. “Trump laughed at Gary when he brought it up,” one outside adviser to the White House said. (The White House declined to comment.)

Kelly and McMaster have been in Trump’s crawl as of late, even more so following the whole Rob Porter affair, where Kelly was essentially caught lying about his knowledge of the accused abuser. From that point, Trump was done with Kelly, and has been looking for a replacement ever since.

But that’s not it. Trump is also planning to have his daughter, Ivanka Trump, and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, both White House advisors, also replaced. Sherman notes: “Next on the departure list are Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump. Trump remains fiercely loyal to his family, but various distractions have eroded their efficacy within the administration.”

This is big. Rarely do presidents attempt reshuffling like these on such a large scale in such a short period.

With the midterm elections coming up, and his 2020 campaign beginning to get off the ground, President Trump wants a full-frontal assault for everything he still wants to accomplish before his first term comes to an end.

What do you think of this major White House shakeup? Is it time for Trump to bring on new blood or is he well served by the current White House team? Tell us your thoughts below!
