A new poll shows Republican gains with Latinos are being driven by conservative-leaning voters who have swung massively away from the Democrat party and now represent a solid GOP base.

The finding is described by NBC News reporter Mark Murray as “fascinating.”

Murray notes that an NBC News/Telemundo poll from 2012 shows conservative Latinos wanted Democrats to control Congress by a 9-point margin.

Today, that number has shifted toward Republicans by a 56-point measure.

“That’s a net 65-point swing in a decade, and it helps to explain how Republicans have cut into Democrats’ lead among Latino voters,” an NBC report reveals.

Conservative and Moderate Latinos Flocking to Republicans

Conservative Latinos aren’t the only group shifting away from Democrats and more toward the Republican party. The same poll shows moderates from that demographic have gone from D+49 to D+32.

Those voters described as liberal Latinos have shifted even further towards Democrats, going from D+65 to D+80.

The numbers seem to align with most other polls which show hardline liberals moving further toward the Democrats while conservative and more independent voters are moving to the right.

The Political Insider’s Remso Martinez warned that Democrats may finally feel the pain of losing Latino voters in the 2022 midterms.

Martinez points out that Latinos aren’t supporters of “the Democrats’ extreme stances regarding access to abortion up until birth, as well as the extreme issues surrounding the LGBTQ+ movement and their attempt to completely distort traditional family values.”

Trump Celebrates Republican Leadership For Delivering For Latinos

Former President Donald Trump, at a Hispanic Leadership Conference in Miami on Wednesday, celebrated “one of the fastest growing groups in the entire country – proud, Hispanic Conservatives and Republicans.”

He pointed to Republican policies that have improved the lives of conservative Latinos.

“Under our leadership, household income for Hispanic Americans reached an all-time high, and Hispanic American unemployment rate reached an all-time low,” he said.

Bloomberg News pointed out that the GOP is setting records with the number of Hispanic and Black candidates on the ballot in 2022.

“Thirty Hispanic and 24 Black Republicans are on ballots for House races, part of an even larger group of nearly 200 Black and Latino Republicans who ran in primaries — both record figures,” they wrote.

The Political Insider’s Becky Noble has been following the story of the three Republican women on the border; Mayra Flores, Adrienne Pena-Garza, and Hilda Garza-DeShazo.

Flores defeated Democrat Dan Sanchez in a special election to fill the vacant seat in Texas’ 34th Congressional District in June, becoming the first Mexican-born Congresswoman.

She also earned the honor of being the first Republican Tesla CEO Elon Musk claims to have ever voted for.

If a red wave does come in the midterms, it might just be conservative Latinos who help deliver it.
