Pittsburgh Synagogue Refutes Biden’s Claim He Visited After 2018 Attack

President Biden told Jewish leaders he recalls visiting the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, the site of a mass shooting in 2018, but the Director of the congregation disputes that claim.

President Biden told Jewish leaders he recalls visiting the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, the site of a mass shooting in 2018, but the Director of the congregation disputes that claim.

“I remember spending time at the, you know, going to the, you know, the Tree of Life synagogue, speaking with them,” Biden told the leaders during a virtual address on Thursday.

Barb Feige, executive director of the Tree of Life, said that simply never happened.

Feige, according to the New York Post, “said firmly that ‘no’ Biden didn’t visit, even before taking office when he had a lower public profile as a former vice president.”

The Tree of Life synagogue massacre took place in October of 2018 and claimed the lives of 11 people.

Did Biden Lie About Visiting The Tree of Life Synagogue?

President Biden’s tale of visiting the Tree of Life synagogue was so outrageous that even CNN had to call out the lie.

Daniel Dale, the network’s resident fact-checker, analyzed the situation.

“He said something that appears to be just false,” Dale said.

CNN ran a clip of Biden’s comments, then noted the New York Post’s rebuttal from Feige, as Dale admitted, “There is a big problem here.”

CNN’s Dale did his best to blunt the fact that President Biden had lied, saying “it is possible” he spoke with somebody from the synagogue via phone, but Biden’s comments specifically mention “spending time” there.

Trump Was Warmly Received

While Biden apparently did not visit the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, former President Donald Trump did just days later.

The media at the time portrayed Trump’s visit as controversial.

The Washington Post reported that his visit “tore open political tensions” because residents were “angered by Trump’s arrival.”

CNN, meanwhile, portrayed him as being ‘shunned’ by local officials who “said his presence was unwelcome.”

Footage from inside the hospital, where the former President and First Lady Melania Trump met with law enforcement officials wounded while responding to the attack, showed staff warmly receive him.

They even cheered the President.

The Republican Jewish Coalition took to social media to state President Biden had “flat out lied about visiting” the Tree of Life synagogue.

“Wow, added RJC Executive Director Matt Brooks. “Biden lies about visiting Tree of Life synagogue in the aftermath of the tragedy in call with Jewish leaders.”

Added Brooks, “That is not normal or ok.”

During the same virtual address to Jewish leaders, Biden appeared to get confused regarding details of his daughter’s wedding.

Biden did issue a statement last year on the second anniversary of the Tree of Life synagogue attack.

“When anti-Semitism is allowed to fester, it shreds the fabric of our communities and erodes our soul,” he said.
