‘Outraged’ NYPD Chief Blasts Governor Cuomo For ‘Sitting In His Office’ Bashing Cops While They’re Out There ‘Giving Their Blood’

Monahan went on to call out Cuomo for his recent bail reform, which stops judges from setting bail on crimes below violent felonies.

NYPD Chief Terence Monahan spoke out on Tuesday to blast New York Governor Andrew Cuomo for attacking New York City police officers for not defending the city from protests and riots over the death of George Floyd.

Governor Cuomo had placed the blame for the out-of-control riots squarely on the shoulders of the police, calling their inability to stop the violence a “disgrace.”

Chief Monahan fired back by pointing out that his officers are “giving their blood” to protect the city against violence. “Our guys are tired, they’re bleeding,” Monahan told the New York Post.

“I think everyone you’re going to see is walking around cut up. But they’re out there again tonight. They’re out there giving their blood to keep this city safe.”

“I’m extremely outraged at the governor’s comments,” he added. “I’m watching my men and women out there dealing with stuff that no cop should ever have to deal with — bricks, bottles, rocks, hit in the face with bottles — and continuing to go forward to make an arrest.”

Monahan went on to say that the officers of the NYPD are doing everything they can to protect their city, despite the abuse they are receiving themselves.

“The leadership from every angle of this department is out on the streets, working side by side with their men,” he continued. “For a governor to be sitting in his office saying that we’re not doing a good job — I’m outraged.”

Monahan went on to call out Cuomo for his recent bail reform, which stops judges from setting bail on crimes below violent felonies.

The NYPD chief pointed out that this reform has done nothing to help the city’s situation right now. “When it comes to a burglary, which is a commercial store, which is looting, they’re back out,” he said. “Because of bail reform you’re back out on the street the next day. You cannot be held on any sort of bail.”

The looting in New York City has indeed gotten out of control in the days since the death of Floyd, who died in police custody in Minneapolis, Minnesota last week.

While violent riots have spread all over the country like wildfire, New York City has been hit particularly bad, with Monahan saying that he’s “never seen anything like this.”
