David Hogg, a survivor of the shooting in Parkland, Florida in 2018, was given a platform by personality Oprah Winfrey to promote gun control in the wake of the shooting in Uvalde, Texas.

Hogg’s self-described mission is to “find common ground with those who oppose gun control.” Oprah asked Hogg about his organization March For Our Lives and what ideas he has for restricting guns.

Hogg spoke idealistically with the celebrity influencer about his ideas for ending gun violence in America.

“We’ve always heard this conversation as either you’re anti-gun or you’re pro-gun,” he said. “We need a third way in this country to acknowledge the fact that our entire country is anti-gun violence. Our entire country is pro-peace. Every gun owner that I have ever met, every responsible one, at least, is for that.”

The young activist co-authored the book #NeverAgain with his sister who also survived the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on February 14, 2018. Seventeen people were killed in that tragedy.

What Does March for Our Lives Want?

In his interview with Oprah, Hogg bragged about having passed so-called ‘red flag’ laws in Florida. ‘Red flag’ allows the government to confiscate guns from individuals who have not been convicted of any crime.

For a refresher, the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution expressly prohibits the government from depriving anyone “of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law.”

Buried on the March for our Lives website, Hogg’s ideas of a “third way” can be found. His organization calls for the Biden-Harris administration “to develop a national, comprehensive plan, using executive action and funding, and to appoint a Director of Gun Violence Prevention and act on his campaign promise to dedicate approximately $1 billion to fund evidence-based community intervention programming.”

Further down the page lists specific policy changes they hope to see enacted. These include “near-universal background checks, closing the boyfriend loophole, and increasing oversight of arms exports by shifting regulatory authority back to the State Department and ensuring Congressional signoff.”

That last bit is especially interesting – since Democrats unanimously opposed such oversight regarding the Biden administration’s $40 billion military package to Ukraine. Almost immediately after, “experts” began to worry that they have no clue where these weapons will end up.

They also hope to direct the IRS to open an investigation into the tax-exempt nonprofit status of the NRA, and direct the FEC to investigate whether the NRA has broken campaign finance laws.

“There is no ending gun violence, without disrupting the institutions that cause it,” the website proclaims. “We want to build a world where students are supported not policed.”

Most people recognize or assume Oprah Winfrey is at least left-of-center, but promoting radical gun control seems to confirm it.

Oprah Faces Backlash for Ties With Dr. Oz

It’s not all peaches and cream for Oprah, though.

She’s facing at least some backlash from her liberal audience over her ties with Dr. Mehmet Oz after his Senate primary victory in Pennsylvania. Oz was endorsed by Donald Trump – a fact Oprah’s audience is not thrilled about.

“Her days of propelling disciples to ever greater cultural heights are on the wane,” Bloomberg stated in a recent report on Oprah’s decline in ratings.

“By any measure she does not have the centrality in American culture that she once did,” says Robert Thompson, the director of Syracuse University’s Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture told Bloomberg.

Nielsen data from 2021 revealed that over the previous 12 months, The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) had lost 22% of its audience and the print edition of O magazine ended in 2020.

Oprah helped Dr. Oz rise to fame over a decade ago with appearances on her daytime talk show which lead to his own TV show co-produced by Oprah.

During the COVID-19 pandemic Dr. Oz’s star with the left began to fall, with regular appearances on “Hannity” that contradicted the left’s idol, Dr. Anthony Fauci.

These appearances did not go over well with Oprah’s liberal viewers.

Oz narrowly defeated former hedge fund manager David McCormack in Pennsylvania’s Republican Primary.

Some of Oprah’s followers would like her to pay penance for her role in helping Oz gain fame.

Oz ended “The Dr. Oz Show” after 13 seasons so he could run for Senate.

“Yes, I worked in TV, which taught me how to fight the woke media,” Oz says in a campaign ad.

“You know who else learned in Hollywood? The two greatest presidents in modern history.”

That would be Ronald Reagan and Donald J. Trump.
