Ocasio-Cortez Settles Lawsuit, Apologizes for Blocking Democrat on Twitter

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez avoided having to testify by settling a federal lawsuit brought forth by a New York Democrat for blocking him on Twitter.

Former New York Assemblyman Dov Hikind, citing precedent with a ruling against President Trump earlier this year, filed a lawsuit against Ocasio-Cortez in July.

In a statement announcing his lawsuit, Hikind claimed he was blocked by the Congresswoman “apparently because my critique of her tweets and policies have been too stinging.”

AOC on Monday issued an apology, seemingly part of the settlement, but vowed to reserve the right to block others in the future.

“Mr. Hikind has a First Amendment right to express his views and should not be blocked for them,” the socialist darling of the Empire State sheepishly stated. “In retrospect, it was wrong and improper and does not reflect the values I cherish.”

“I sincerely apologize for blocking Mr. Hikind.”

Hikind Celebrates

Hikind, in announcing his lawsuit this past summer, blasted Ocasio-Cortez for trying to silence him and calling her actions “cowardly.”

“Ocasio-Cortez is acting cowardly and should be ashamed of her attempts to silence me,” Hikind railed. “I’ve done nothing but address her ignorance and disregard for the truth.”

Isn’t that what everyone is trying to do for AOC on twitter really?

The former Assemblyman took a bit of a victory lap after Ocasio-Cortez’s apology, suggesting this might be the first time anybody has ever heard her admit being wrong about something.

“It’s pretty incredible. She’s apologizing,” Hikind told the Daily News. “This might be the first time that she actually says, ‘I was wrong.’ It’s great. It’s a great victory for First Amendment rights.”

What’s incredible is that someone who is consistently wrong on everything they say would not be able to admit it … until now.

About Face

AOC’s feeble apology marks a complete reversal of her statement of defiance in the face of the Hikind’s lawsuit.

Hikind had been blocked following harsh criticism of the New York socialist who wantonly compared ICE detention centers to “concentration camps.”

“You’re actually a liar. It’s been proven,” he wrote in response to one of her unhinged tweets.

AOC claimed that any accounts she had blocked were due to “harassment.”

“Less than 20 accounts are blocked for ongoing harassment,” she wrote. “Harassment is not a viewpoint … No one is entitled to abuse.”

This sudden reversal and apology deprive us of the fireworks that were set to go off at a court hearing in which Ocasio-Cortez was to testify on Tuesday.

“I’ll be confronting congresswoman Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez in federal court over her suppression of my First Amendment rights by blocking me on Twitter,” Hikind said in a press release last week.

“On November 5th we will find out why Ms. Ocasio-Cortez has taken the path of cowardice until now, why she needed to block the founder of Americans Against Antisemitism at a time of rising violent antisemitism,” he added.

Now, sadly, we won’t.

Hikind confirmed that Ocasio-Cortez has indeed unblocked him on Twitter.
