Ocasio-Cortez Says Illegal Aliens Are ‘My Constituents’

During a House Oversight and Reform Committee hearing last week, Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez referred to illegal aliens as “my constituents.”

Ocasio-Cortez was questioning secretary of commerce Wilbur Ross about a citizenship question the administration is attempting to add to the 2020 census.

Ross announced the question in 2017, claiming knowledge of a respondent’s citizenship is “necessary to provide complete and accurate Census block level data.”

Ocasio-Cortez’s line of questioning focused on conversations Ross had with Republican Kris Kobach, then Kansas secretary of state.

“Mr. Kobach later sent an email to you on July 14, writing that the lack of the citizenship question ‘leads to the problem that aliens who do not actually reside in the United States are still counted for congressional apportionment services,'” she stated.

“Of course they do reside in the United States. They reside in my district. They’re my constituents,” Ocasio-Cortez claimed of illegals.

Merriam-Webster defines a ‘constituent’ as “any one of the people who live and vote in an area.”

As illegal aliens can not, by law, vote, it’s unclear if Ocasio-Cortez’s comment was just a misunderstanding of what the word means, or wishful thinking from a radical Democrat.

More American Than Trump

Ocasio-Cortez has on several occasions raised illegal aliens to the same level as their fellow law-abiding Americans or legal immigrants in this country.

Aside from now believing illegals make up her constituency, she has also claimed illegals are more American than President Trump or any of his supporters.

“The women and children on the border seeking refuge and opportunity in the U.S. with nothing but the shirt on their backs are acting more American than any person who seeks to keep them out ever will be,” Ocasio-Cortez said in an interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow.

Of course, neither of these statements are true.

But then, facts aren’t actually a concern for the Democrat party’s socialist darling.

“I think there’s a lot of people more concerned about being precisely, factually, and semantically correct than about being morally right,” she has said.

Her Actual Constituents View Her Unfavorably

A recent Gallup poll showed that across a wide spectrum of voters, Ocasio-Cortez unfavorable numbers have been skyrocketing.

Another poll has been released backing that up. The Siena College Research Institute (SCRI) reveals that New Yorkers themselves view her very negatively.

“Ocasio-Cortez, with a negative 31-44 percent favorability rating, is as well known to statewide voters after three months in office as Gillibrand is after ten years as senator,” the SCRI writes.

“While Democrats view Ocasio-Cortez favorably, independents view her unfavorably more than two-to-one and Republicans view her unfavorably, 68-6 percent.”
