Nikki Haley Fires Back At AOC For ‘Dangerous’ Call To Rein In Media – Calls It ‘Clear Shot’ At Non-Liberal Outlets

Former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley took to Twitter on Tuesday to fire back at Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) after the self-described Democratic Socialist called for a federal commission to “rein in” the media.

Haley Calls Out AOC

Haley went so far as to say that it’s clear that Ocasio-Cortez is calling for the censorship of media outlets that are not liberal enough for her liking.

“AOC is calling for a federal commission to ‘rein in our media,’ in a clear shot at any outlet that isn’t liberal,” Haley wrote on Twitter. “Few ideas are more dangerous than a gov agency overseeing the media. Apparently, AOC never read the First Amendment’s guarantee of press freedom.”

AOC’s Initial Comments

Haley was referring to comments that Ocasio-Cortez recently made in an Instagram Live in which she recalled her experience in the Capitol riots last month. During this Live, Ocasio-Cortez was asked if there was any discussion in Congress about the “truth and reconciliation or media literacy initiatives,” according to Fox News.

“I can say, there is absolutely a commission being discussed but it seems to be more investigatory, in style rather than truth and reconciliation, so I think that’s an interesting concept for us to explore, and I do think that several members of Congress, in some of my discussions, have brought up media literacy because that is a part of what happened here and we’re going to have to figure out how we rein in our media environment so that you can’t just spew disinformation and misinformation,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

“It’s one thing to have differentiating opinions but it’s another thing entirely to just say things that are false,” she added. “So that’s something that we’re looking into.”

Haley And AOC Have Gone At It Before

This isn’t the first time that Haley and Ocasio-Cortez have had words on social media. Back in November, Haley tweeted back at Ocasio-Cortez after the progressive congresswoman said that the government should “pay people to stay at home.”

“AOC, Are you suggesting you want to pay people to stay home from the money you take by defunding the police?” Haley shot back. “Or was that for the student debts you wanted to pay off, the Green New Deal or Medicare for All?”

This caused Ocasio-Cortez to lose her temper and say that it was “utterly embarrassing that this woman was a governor & still doesn’t have a grasp on public investment.”
