NFL Great Burgess Owens Says Democrats Should Pay Reparations For Bringing ‘Misery to My Race’

Former NFL player and part of the Oakland Raiders 1980 Super Bowl champion team, Burgess Owens, took part in a House hearing to address slavery reparations.

The Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties held a hearing on Wednesday featuring speakers Ta-Nehisi Coates and actor Danny Glover, among others.

The goal was to cover “the legacy of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade” and examine a “path to restorative justice.”

What Owens said during his five-minute allotment at the hearing had to really take the Democrats in the room by surprise.

Owens doesn’t agree with the party on the committee that reparations are in order, something backed up by a vast majority of Americans who oppose them.

If they are going to push for them, however, he has one stipulation in mind.

Owens blasted the Democrat party saying they should be the only ones held responsible in paying reparations due to “all the misery” they’ve caused blacks throughout history.

Bet they didn’t see this coming at all …

Owens Powerful Argument Against Reparations

Owens recently wrote a Wall Street Journal op-ed column dismissing the idea of reparations.

“Proponents of reparations act as though black Americans are incapable of carrying their own burdens, while white Americans must bear the sins of those who came before,” he wrote.

His testimony Wednesday blamed misery experienced by blacks in this country solely on the Democrat party.

“I used to be a Democrat until I did my history and found out the misery that that party brought to my race,” Owens revealed.

He certainly has a point, if you listen to the words of Jesse Jackson Jr. who concluded that “so much of the Democratic Party’s history, since it is our nation’s oldest political party, has its roots in slavery.”

“Let’s pay restitution,” Owens added. “How about the Democratic Party pay for all the misery brought to my race …”

Aside from hammering Democrats on their revisionist history, Owens noted that living in the past doesn’t help anyone move forward today.

“What strangers did to other strangers 200 years ago has nothing to do with us because that has nothing to do with our DNA,” he declared.

“History is there for us to find out and gauge for ourselves how far we’ve come,” he added. “As long as we don’t reach back and define ourselves by the worst of ourselves – and that’s what too many people are doing today.”

Democrats are most definitely defining America by their worst moments today.

Burgess’ Other Conservative Viewpoints

Burgess has been very outspoken during the NFL/Colin Kaepernick kneeling controversy.

A “mistake was made … when they allowed a Marxist to take the reins of their organization … Colin Kaepernick,” Owens lashed out. “At the end of the day, that’s what we’re up against.”

He took a sharp jab at the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback, saying “Kaepernick is not articulate enough to talk about the issues.”

Owens also ripped players who kneel alleging they “are not only failing our kids, but they are betraying our past.”
