President Donald Trump took a bold action yesterday by pardoning Dinesh D’Souza, the conservative filmmaker and former Reagan White House official, after being convicted of campaign finance violations. (RELATED: Trump Announces Full Pardon For Dinesh D’Souza).
Immediately after the news broke, the New York Attorney General’s office blasted out a shocking tweet that they want a new state law to imprison people who have been pardoned for federal-level crimes.
Apparently, they haven’t read the U.S. Constitution, which prohibits double jeopardy.
It’s had to believe but they really tweeted this:
First it was Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
Then it was Scooter Libby.
Now it’s Dinesh D’Souza.
We can’t afford to wait to see who will be next. Lawmakers must act now to close New York’s double jeopardy loophole. pic.twitter.com/nF5wTUGSjf

That “loophole” isn’t a loophole. It’s simply the Constitutional provision that doesn’t allow double jeopardy. The entire point was to prevent political prosecution of people – repeatedly for the same crime after being acquitted – for political motives.
Now, the Attorney General of New York is publicly suggesting he wants to jail people when he doesn’t like their politics.
Is there any doubt that top law enforcement officials use their official positions for political interests? This is outrageous.
Meanwhile, the first thing Dinesh did after being pardoned is to get revenge on the man who tried to ruin his life. This is great!:
KARMA IS A BITCH DEPT: @PreetBharara wanted to destroy a fellow Indian American to advance his career. Then he got fired & I got pardoned
— Dinesh D'Souza (@DineshDSouza) May 31, 2018
As the Washington Examiner explains:
Bharara served as the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York when D’Souza was charged with campaign finance fraud.
D’Souza pleaded guilty in 2014 to a federal charge of making illegal campaign contributions to a U.S. Senate candidate, but he claimed he was forced to plead guilty by Bharara and other federal prosecutors.
“Bharara & his goons bludgeoned me into the plea by threatening to add a second redundant charge carrying a prison term of FIVE YEARS,” D’Souza tweeted, responding to a tweet from Bharara.
Preet Bharara and the New York Attorney General are clear examples of what liberals are capable of. It’s clear Bharara deserved to be fired by President Trump, and the people of New York should replace their Attorney General.
