New Poll Shows Majority Of Americans Favor Mask And Vaccine Mandates

poll support vaccine mandates

A new poll shows that a majority of Americans now favor mask and vaccine mandates in schools, the workplace, and other public places – including what some may view as a surprisingly high percentage of Republicans.

In addition to dividing up the poll among Democrats, Republicans, and Independents, the poll also showed some regional differences, with those in the Midwest being the most critical of government imposed mandates.

A Morning Consult/Politico Poll taken last week shows similar results.

Responses Along Party Lines

The numbers looks like this: 92% of Democrats support mask mandates in schools, Republicans at 44%, and Independents at 67%.

In public places, the numbers are 88% for Democrats and 40% for Republicans.

The question of whether or not states should ban local mandates, like has been done in Texas and Florida, shows numbers more in line with what most of our readers would think: Republicans supporting such laws is 57%, with only 16% for Democrats.

Overall, 64% support state and local governments instituting mask mandates for public places, only one in three supports state laws banning mask mandates.

GOP Governors Pushing Back

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) have issued executive orders banning mask mandates in schools.

The list of Republican governors taking action on mask mandates grew by one on Monday, as Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee (R) signed an executive order giving parents the option to opt out of mask mandates from local school or health boards.

The poll numbers seem to indicate, however, that Americans would be willing to support many more mandates that have not been put in place yet.

COVID Polling Numbers

Roughly half of those surveyed said they were required to wear a mask at their job, and 16% said their bosses were requiring that all employees be vaccinated.

In a poll from the beginning of August, those polled were divided between vaccinated and unvaccinated, and were asked who was to blame for the recent spike in COVID cases.

The answers were intriguing to say the least.

Of the vaccinated group, they placed blame on the unvaccinated by a whopping 78%, and 35% blamed Donald Trump. 33% blamed conservative media.

The unvaccinated group blamed foreign travelers in the U.S. at 37%, and the mainstream media at 27%.
