New Poll Shows Huge Trump Lead Over Biden In Georgia

In 2020, Joe Biden barely beat Donald Trump in the presidential race in Georgia – if one assumes everything was on the up-and-up.

Georgia even went all the way blue shortly after 2020, with both Senate seats going to Democrats.

Now, a new poll from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (the state’s paper of record) and the University of Georgia shows Trump leading President Biden in that swing state.

By a lot.

Georgia Not Looking Good for Biden According to New Poll as 2024 Begins

Politico reports, “Trump held a 45 percent to 37 percent lead over the incumbent Democrat among registered voters, according to the survey. The remaining respondents — nearly 20 percent — said they weren’t sure, wouldn’t vote in the race or planned to cast a ballot for another candidate. The survey did not name potential third party candidates.”

“About 62 percent of respondents had a negative view of Biden’s job performance, with a slim majority saying they ‘strongly disapprove’ of the incumbent,” Politico added.

This, as Trump faces legal trouble in Georgia for so-called “election racketeering.” It doesn’t look like the possibility of legal sanction matters all that much to Georgia voters.

The story continued:

This is roughly in line with Biden’s low approval ratings, both nationally and in Georgia. He ended 2023 with a national job approval rating of 39 percent, according to a Gallup poll from December.

Biden narrowly won Georgia in 2020, the first time a Democratic presidential candidate carried the state since 1992. Trump tried to pressure Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to “find votes” in the state, and he and his allies falsely accused election workers of fraud. Two Georgia election workers won a defamation lawsuit against Trump ally Rudy Giuliani last month.

This poll was taken before Trump absolutely swept the Iowa Caucus on Monday.

Right Now Trump is the Man to Beat – Across the Board

With Biden being the first Democratic presidential candidate to win Georgia in almost three decades in 2020, it would be quite the feat to repeat such a victory in 2024 – where Trump continues to deliver leading polls numbers across the board.

The AJC poll noted some factors: “Biden is hurt by soft support among many Democratic and independent voters who were crucial to his narrow 2020 victory over Trump in Georgia, including 10% of Black voters who say they don’t plan to vote in the White House race at all.”

Trump is far and away the GOP frontrunner in his party’s presidential primary and is significantly competitive in the general election at the moment if he ends up facing Biden as the Democratic nominee.

Things can change in any election for any candidate – for the worse or the better.

Especially for Donald Trump.
