New Book Claims Pelosi Tried To Thwart Green New Deal Over Fears Of AOC’s Political Power

A new book about insider Democrat politics claims House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was so "anxious" about AOC gaining power that she tried to derail the rollout of the Green New Deal.

A new book about insider Democrat politics claims House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was so “anxious” about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) gaining power that she tried to derail the rollout of the Green New Deal.

The book, authored by former Chief Washington Correspondent for Politico, Edward-Isaac Dovere, is titled: “Battle for the Soul: Inside the Democrats’ Campaigns to Defeat Trump.”

“In February 2019, Pelosi called [Senator] Ed Markey the night before he was scheduled to help roll out the Green New Deal. She asked him to hold off,” an excerpt reads, according to Fox News.

“She wanted more substantive policy. The politics weren’t good right then,” Dovere writes.

“Don’t give the platform to Ocasio-Cortez, she urged, anxious about the new congresswoman’s notoriety becoming actual power.”

Pelosi’s office has denied the claim and will reportedly ask for a correction.

Pelosi Was Anxious Over AOC’s Rise

According to the book, Markey refused to hold off on the Green New Deal rollout and instead moved forward with the announcement that NBC News described as “not a specific policy proposal, but rather a general set of goals.”

Representative Ocasio-Cortez had called the proposal “a wartime-level, just economic mobilization plan to get to 100% renewable energy” while experts predicted the cost to implement would be in the trillions.

The rollout by Markey and AOC prompted Pelosi to downplay the plan as “one of several or maybe many suggestions that we receive.”

The “anxious” Pelosi famously mocked AOC’s plan as the “green dream.”

“The green dream or whatever they call it, nobody knows what it is, but they’re for it right?” she said condescendingly.

At the time, CNN’s Chris Cillizza wrote of Pelosi’s comments, “Pelosi knows exactly what she’s doing here. Her utter dismissiveness of the “Green New Deal” – and, by extension, AOC, who is the member most closely identified with it, is entirely intentional.”

“Pelosi knows that AOC is a rising national power – particularly among the most activist and liberal left. Given Ocasio-Cortez’s profile – and her influence among young, liberal members – Pelosi knows she can’t just ignore what the New York Democrat says and does. But she isn’t going to kowtow to AOC either.”

Ocasio-Cortez had already at that point enraged Pelosi with her amateurish antics, such as the time she joined dozens of students for a climate change protest in the Speaker’s office before she even spent a day in Congress.

AOC Still Holds Power

Republicans have been pointing out that no matter how absurd the Green New Deal is in regards to smart, reasonable policy, the Biden administration is trying to push major aspects of it in their infrastructure proposal.

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) penned an op-ed column in which she claims Biden’s latest $2 trillion “infrastructure” bill is a thinly-disguised version of AOC’s Green New Deal.

“The plan incorporates large swaths of the socialist ‘Green New Deal,’ which remains firmly planted on the brains and wish lists of socialists in the House and Senate despite both Congress and voters rejecting the bill,” writes Mace.

While Pelosi may have been anxious about AOC and her power, Democrats are for some of the “green” proposals.

A Wall Street Journal column reveals that Democrats may attempt to use budget reconciliation rules to pass the $2 trillion ‘infrastructure’ package without needing any Republican votes.

Dovere also writes that former President Barack Obama was a “parasite” on the Democrat Party – having abandoned Democrats after his elections and seeing thousands of Democrat seats lost to Republicans.

The author adds that Obama believed he could have won a third term if he had run against Trump in 2016.

“Ultimately Obama’s math comes down to a simple calculation: he has suggested in conversations with people close to him that he thinks he would have won had he been able to be a candidate in 2016,” Dovere writes.

“The economy, the Democratic debris, Russia – if he could have run for a third term, even confronted with all these issues, he believes, he would have figured out how to pull a victory off anyway.”
