A former Navy sailor who was pardoned by President Donald Trump is planning to file a lawsuit against Obama administration officials, arguing that he was treated unfairly under the law compared to Hillary Clinton. Kristian Saucier served a year in federal prison for taking photos of classified sections of the submarine on which he worked, the USS Alexandria. Saucier pleaded guilty in 2016 to taking the photos while the submarine was stationed in Groton, Connecticut in 2009. He contended that he only wanted service mementos and never planned to show the photos to anyone outside his family, but federal prosecutors argued that he was a disgruntled sailor who put national security at risk by taking photos of the submarine’s propulsion system.

“[They interpreted the law in my case to say it was criminal,” Saucier told Fox News, “but they didn’t prosecute Hillary Clinton. Hillary is still walking free. Two guys on my ship did the same thing and weren’t treated as criminals. We want them to correct the wrong.”

Saucier’s lawyer, Ron Daigle, says the lawsuit will name the Department of Justice, former FBI Director James Comey, and Barack Obama, among others. According to Daigle, the federal government’s treatment of Hillary versus Saucier is the crux of the lawsuit. “We’ll highlight the differences in the way Hillary Clinton was prosecuted and how my client was prosecuted,” Daigle said. “We’re seeking to cast a light on this to show that there’s a two-tier justice system and we want it to be corrected.”

Saucier believes that his prosecution was politically motivated in the wake of the Clinton email scandal. “My case was usually something handled by military courts,” he said. “They used me as an example because of [the backlash over] Hillary Clinton.”

Saucier has every right to be upset. His felony conviction relegated him to work as a garbage man. As a result, he, his wife, and his young daughter lost their home to foreclosure, and the family’s cars were repossessed. Thankfully, things are turning around. He’s gotten a job working on design and engineering projects for an industrial boiler company.

Nevertheless, it’s disgraceful that the federal government treated a member of our military this way while simultaneously allowing Hillary Clinton to get away scot-free with actual crimes. Saucier is right to sue if only to make a point about how unfairly protected people like Clinton are.
