Pelosi Promises: If Democrats Take Back the House, We’ll Repeal Your Tax Cuts!

WASHINGTON, DC - OCTOBER 04: House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) (R) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) members of the House and Senate Budget, Ways and Means and Finance committees hold a news conference critical of the Republican tax and budget plan at the U.S. Capitol October 4, 2017 in Washington, DC. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi just provided a campaign ad for every Republican running for a seat in Congress during the upcoming midterms.

While not known as an honest person, Pelosi let out a little bit of accidental truth during a town hall meeting on Wednesday.

Speaking alongside a preeminent anti-Trumper in the Democrat Party, Ted Lieu, Pelosi vowed to take the popular GOP tax cuts and repeal them.

“We’ll sit down at the table and say … what would be a tax bill that creates growth, that creates good paying jobs as it reduces the deficit?” Pelosi said. “It’s not about chipping at this piece or that piece, it’s about a comprehensive look at what our tax policy should be for the future.”

“It may have to be a ‘replace and repeal,'” she has previously joked. “Replace them (Republicans) and repeal the bill.”

The town hall event itself was dubbed the “Repeal the Trump Tax” tour.

Complaints of the middle-class tax cut bill abound for Democrats.

“One of our complaints about what they did with the tax bill is they did it in the dark of night with the speed of light,” Pelosi said without any indication she was aware of the irony of such a comment, considering she once told Americans we had to pass a bill and then find out what was in it.

“Over 80 percent of the benefits go to the top 1 percent,” Pelosi said of the tax bill. “Eighty-six million middle-class families will see a tax increase while they advertise it as a middle-class bill.”

This is an absurdly, and patently false statement.

The Tax Policy Center estimated that the average household would get a tax cut of $1,610 in 2018, while a mere 5 percent of taxpayers will see increased taxes this year.

Yet, she’d rather see those tax cuts repealed because she views the dividends being paid out by employers as ‘crumbs.’

Recent polls have shown Americans’ approval of the tax law steadily rising, while President Trump’s own approval ratings are rising due in part to the tax cuts.

The GOP should remind voters every day from here until November of Pelosi’s promise.
