Minneapolis City Council Shocked By Surge In Crime – Two Months After Voting To Defund The Police

Minneapolis City Council members expressed dismay at the rapid rise of crime haunting their constituents roughly two months after demonizing and voting to defund the city’s police department.

Because who could have predicted criminals would suddenly become emboldened knowing that officials now view the police department as the real enemy?

At a meeting Wednesday to address the surge in violent crimes – which Fox News reports include daylight carjackings, robberies, assaults, and shootings – council members demanded to know why the police haven’t been taking action.

“Residents are asking, ‘Where are the police?'” a befuddled Jamal Osman, Council Member, asked.

Osman claimed phone calls to the police were going unanswered.

“That is the only public safety option [constituents] have at the moment. MPD. They rely on MPD,” he said. “And they are saying they are nowhere to be seen.”

File Under ‘Duh’

The video clip above is an epic reel of stupidity in which one can almost feel the brain cells fleeing their heads.

The City Council and Democrat lawmakers made the Minneapolis Police Department the enemy. They were accused of brutalizing harmless innocents. They were called a ‘cancer’ that needed to be cut out.

And now they wonder where law enforcement is? You can’t write fictional characters this moronic.

“I will never cosign on funding a police department that continues to brutalize us, and I will never stop saying not only do we need to disinvest in police, but we need to completely dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department,” Rep. Ilhan Omar said to a cheering mob in June.

In July, the council followed her lead, taking numerous steps to dismantle the department, including an amendment to remove $1 million from their budget and reallocate it toward hiring “violence interrupters.”

While Omar was leading the charge to dismantle the police department, she assured everyone that the community would remain safe.

“No one is saying that the community is not going to be kept safe. No one is saying crimes will not be investigated,” she vowed. “No one is saying that we are not going to have proper response when community members are in danger.”

How wrong she was.

The City Council Had Their Own Private Security Detail

Knowing what Omar and the city council said and did, fast-forward to today where council members now whine about the lack of response from the police.

Fox News:

Council President Lisa Bender accused police of intentionally not enforcing laws or making arrests.

“This is not new,” Bender said. “But it is very concerning in the current context.”

Well, concerning for the people anyway.

The Hill, in July, reported that Minneapolis City Council members had been provided with a pricey private security detail in the wake of their defunding push.

In essence, they defund the police for the peasantry, then hire their own security using the peasantry’s tax dollars.

Now they’re feigning concern for those same people when they took away the city’s first line of defense.
