Michelle Obama Speaks Out To Mark The End Of An Era

The former First Lady Michelle Obama took to Instagram this weekend to mark the end of an era, as the White House butler is retiring after nearly fifty years working there.

Michelle Obama Speaks Out

“William ‘Buddy’ Carter is retiring after 47 years as a butler at the White House and the Blair House. Barack and I are so grateful to have had his warmth, charm, and dignity by our side for eight of those years,” Michelle said.

“He was always someone we could count on, without fail, and as time went on, he became an extension of our own family,” she added. “Congratulations, Buddy, on nearly a half-century of extraordinary service to First Families and our country.”

Barack Obama Talks About Daughters

This comes after former President Barack Obama admitted that he and Michelle were worried that their daughters would turn into “weird kids” because of their privileged lives in the White House.

“They don’t have an attitude – that was what me and Michelle were worried about the most and I write about this in the book – when I talked about running, are we going to end up with weird kids?” Obama said to late night host James Corden. “And Michelle and my mother-in-law were very good with saying ‘Listen, you have to make your own beds, you have to wake yourselves up.'”

Obama also said that neither his daughter Malia nor her younger sister Sasha will be going into politics.

“First of all, them as teenagers having Secret Service guys follow them when they were going out on dates, I think probably has shut down their interest in public service,” Obama said “They still have PTSD from guys talking into their wrist microphones with glasses as they’re trying to go to a music concert.”

Obama Gushes About Daughters

Though he does not feel that his daughters will be following in his footsteps, Obama still was eager to gush about them.

“They have turned into just exceptional young women,” he said. “I could not be prouder of them, not just because they’re smart and accomplished, but they’re just kind people. They don’t have an attitude.”
