NEW YORK, NY - APRIL 16: Michael Cohen, longtime personal lawyer and confidante for President Donald Trump, exits the United States District Court Southern District of New York, April 16, 2018 in New York City. Cohen and lawyers representing President Trump are asking the court to block Justice Department officials from reading documents and materials related to Cohen's relationship with President Trump that they believe should be protected by attorney-client privilege. This news is going to get the liberal press giddier than a 2008 Barack Obama rally.

President Trump’s former personal lawyer Michael Cohen is hinting that he may turn on his former client in order to earn favor in the court of public opinion and with Robert Mueller, who is leading the ongoing investigation into ties between the Trump campaign and Russia. At least that’s the takeaway from an exclusive interview with ABC, where Cohen told George Stephanopoulos (a former Clinton White House comms director) that, when asked if he’ll be loyal to Trump, “My wife, my daughter, and my son have my first loyalty and always will. I put family and country first.”

Now, the liberal media is running with this brief remark in the interview, pretending that Cohen is ready to flip on Trump and provide crucial evidence to ensure he’s locked up. And he just may do that. But nowhere in Stephanopoulos’s write-up does Cohen suggest that he’s ready to turn on Trump. What he offers in his loyalty oath is what we expect from any family man: he’ll do right by his wife and kids first over a boss.

But suppose Cohen does flip and squeals like a tickled pig. Suppose he’s been convinced by the liberal media and federal prosecutors that turning in evidence on Trump will help his own case.

Do we really think he’s that stupid? We know that Cohen is what’s known as a “fixer.” He’s a savvy lawyer who handled delicate matters for high-profile celebrities. He understands the legal system. He knows where interests and incentives lie, and how the media is sometimes weaponized as a force to bring down unscrupulous individuals.

Is Cohen dense enough to think the liberal press will let him walk free if he turns on Trump? Cohen was a long-time attorney for Trump – emphasis on long-time. Liberals will never forgive that transgression. He’s only being used as a patsy now.

Thankfully, there isn’t much evidence to support the contention that Cohen is fed up with Trump and is ready to throw him overboard. Cohen has thus far been reluctant to give up compromising information about his former boss in a related investigation. (RELATED: Michael Cohen Pleads The Fifth In Stormy Daniels Case.) And crazy liberal actor Tom Arnold suggested that he and Cohen were working in cahoots to land Trump in jail. The only problem is, Cohen, contradicted Arnold’s entire claim. If this is what a setup looks like, it appears Trump won’t be going anywhere any time soon.
