Meet Candace Owens’ #BLEXIT Movement, Exposing The Democrat Party To The Black Community

By now, many conservatives know Candace Owens. She is a firebrand black conservative commentator, a former Democrat who wants to tell the world that the Democrat Party had taken advantage of the black community for 50 years by making promises in exchange for votes.

So in addition to speaking, appearances on the Fox New Channel, and writing a New York Times bestseller called “Blackout,” she and former Tucson Arizona police officer Brandon Tatum founded BLEXIT. 

BLEXIT is now a nationwide movement with chapters in almost every state. Those chapters came together for a sold out rally in St. Louis on Saturday, which just so happens to be in my neck of the woods. 

Let me tell you, it was awesome.

What Is BLEXIT?

Candace Owens describes BLEXIT as a “renaissance.” You might recognize the name playing off ‘Brexit’ – the movement to withdraw the UK from the European Union.

So what are black American exiting from? Owens says, “BLEXIT is the black exit from the Democratic Party. It’s the black exit from permanent victimhood, the black exit from the false idea that we are somehow separate from the rest of America.”

The rank and file members of BLEXIT have taken it one step further than that. Missouri State Director Martin Baker put it this way: 

“BLEXIT is about empowerment. It is about the 3 F’s, faith, family, and freedom. Having the faith to think freely, supporting your family with honor, and celebrating freedom in the greatest nation on the planet. BLEXIT is a modern day vehicle to address modern day problems and does not need political doublespeak to do it. It is built on love of country.”

Who Is BLEXIT?

What is more important than what BLEXIT is, is who BLEXIT is. At a rally that was attended by roughly 1,200 people, the majority of BLEXIT members and volunteers are young black people, men and women from all over the nation, who are rejecting the idea put forth by not just the Democrat Party, but groups like Black Lives Matter, and liberals in general, both black and white, that African-Americans must embrace victimhood.

Those young black activists came from 41 states, some as far as California, Arizona, and Florida.

Because BLEXIT started out as a political movement, and because it is an election year, local politicians were in attendance as well. Peggy Hubbard, who is African-American and running for the Senate in Illinois to unseat incumbent Tammy Duckworth, also talked about empowerment for minorities:

“I’m here to let people know that it’s OK to be empowered, and its OK to leave the Democrat Party. Democrats have never been the party for minorities.”

BLEXIT is also drawing the curiosity of both young and old – I chatted with a few people about their interest in the event.

Frank Washington, an African-American man in his 60’s, told me, “I’m here with my wife, and I am curious to find out what BLEXIT is about.” 

Donovan Lloyd, a black man in his 30’s, said, “I’m here to listen and learn. I’m familiar with Candace and I agree with a lot of what she has to say so I wanted to come see her and hear what she has to say.”

I was able to make my way right up to the stage to hear Larry Elder – who had just run a hard-fought race to recall California Governor Gavin Newsom.

More Than Just Rallies And Speakers

Rally speakers in addition to Candace Owens and Elder included Prager U personality Will Witt, Tennessee congressional candidate Robby Starbuck, BLEXIT co-founder Brandon Tatum, and rappers Zuby and Bryson Gray.

Gray, you may recall, has spent a number of weeks at the top of the iTunes charts for his anti-Biden hit, “Let’s Go Brandon.” 

While BLEXIT gets the message out to black Americans that they no longer have to be beholden to Democrats, they are also out in communities. BLEXIT donated Thanksgiving dinners to those who were in need. In December, BLEXIT Missouri assisted tornado victims. 

BLEXIT North Carolina has instituted “parents night out.” While parents get some downtime, BLEXIT hosts a learning and fun event for kids. They are taught history and participate in other learning activities.

This month, all chapters will be hosting events that will explain what critical race theory is and the dangers of it. BLEXIT is also a strong supporter of law enforcement. 

The media does not report on BLEXIT, and social media does not take them seriously. They do both at their own peril.
